An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Support and Wellbeing Service, part of the Student and Campus Life Division, as a Support and Wellbeing Manager, linking closely with students in the Faculty of Engineering.

This is a challenging role, managing as small team of staff who provide frontline wellbeing support to students as part of a wider wellbeing network. This role will primarily be based on the University Park, and some cross-campus work may be required.

Students can be referred into the Support and Wellbeing team via academic or support staff or may choose to seek support themselves and self-refer. Our support can be accessed in a variety of ways with students being advised via face-to-face appointments, video calls, telephone appointments, or by email.

An important part or the role will be leading a team who advise students with difficult or challenging wellbeing circumstances, supporting them to follow the relevant university policies and processes and access specialist wellbeing services. You will provide some direct wellbeing support to students, however the main elements of the role will be team management, working with colleagues across the University and building networks with other staff within the Faculty of Engineering.

You will have a degree or relevant experience, knowledge of Higher Education academic culture and have previous advice work experience, or equivalent. You will be highly motivated, organised, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating sound judgment under pressure. An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Faculty of Engineering’s Powertrain Research Centre for an individual to join our team of highly skilled engineering technicians engaged in the manufacture, assembly, preparation and maintenance of research rigs and equipment. Our technical team works closely with students and staff and engage in a varied portfolio of work across all the University’s engineering disciplines. We believe diverse teams make us stronger. The Role

As the Powertrain Lead Technician, you will have supervisory responsibilities of a team of two technicians supporting research into alternative fuelled internal combustion engines and automotive batteries. You will provide support in either mechanical workshop processes or electro-mechanical / instrumentation. The role is key in contributing to the manufacture of a wide range of components and subsequent assembly into custom research rigs and associated systems in support of research. The role will require a diverse range of engineering techniques and skills. Responsibilities will include liaising with colleagues on design and installation of engine fuel supply circuits, regular maintenance of all mechanical aspects of the test rigs and the management of laboratory health and safety. The role holder will communicate well at all levels from professorial to undergraduate.

Manufacture, assembly, operation, maintenance, servicing, repair and adjustment of precision rigs and associated equipment to support individual research experiments.
Preparing and testing of high-pressure gas pipe systems, as well as maintaining safety devices and repairing/replacing as and when necessary.
Conventional/CNC machining and modification of components OR electro-mechanical / instrumentational design, installation, testing and monitoring of engine test beds.
Specification and ordering of outsourced components and assemblies.
Your Experience

Principles of mechanical assembly.
Attained at least an HNC in an engineering discipline or experience in a relevant role.
It's desirable to have a working knowledge of CAD programs, such as Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar.

The Midlands Centre for Data-driven Metrology (MCDDM) is hosted by the University of Nottingham. We are seeking a Research Technician to join a multi-disciplinary project collaborating with industrial partners to explore the development of antimicrobial materials and their efficacy in biological systems.

The role holder will be involved in the data collection on studying novel materials and their interactions with bacteria and mammalian cells.. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research team at the School of Pharmacy lead by Dr Felicity de Cogan.

Main duties will include assisting with the maintenance of a wide range of sports grounds areas to a high standard including marking out playing surfaces and maintaining turf and artificial surfaces. A great opportunity has arisen for you to develop the skills and knowledge required to excel in the specialism of electrical coil winding, learning from our team of electrical engineering technicians associated with the Power/Electronics & Machine Controls Group (PEMC).

You will receive practical on the job training in the faculty’s extensively equipped workshops/laboratories on a variety of cutting-edge coil winding processes and instrumentation from our experienced and qualified technicians. Duties will include:

To wind bespoke motors and generators along with inductors and assist in the winding of larger complex rigs with the Senior Winding Technician.
Electrical winding of AC stators, inductors, transformers, and permanent magnet motors using a CNC coil winding machine and proven hand winding skills.
Look to develop new and innovative processes to wind bespoke and cutting-edge motors and generators.
Develop jigs and fixtures to aid and improve the winding and build process. Commissioning test rigs with specific but not exclusive emphasis on establishing an operational rig in pre-determined time scales.
Work with researcher group members to assess designs and offer advice of alternative engineering solutions to achieve the design objectives. Controlling the calibration certificates/maintenance & schedules for the diverse range of equipment used within the PEMC Group.
Carry out prototype testing on development motors/generators and report findings to research team members for analysis. Liaising with members of academic staff and researchers connected to the UTC to advise on rig and experimental programme matters.
Candidates should have:

A HNC in a relevant subject OR equivalent qualifications with considerable work experience in a relevant role OR Substantial work experience in a relevant role.

Individuals are expected to fully engage with all the training, learning and development opportunities provided by the faculty/university to gain the skills and competencies required to progress to the next level identified in the Training Grade Development Plan, within a prescribed timescale of 18 months.

We require a motivated and dynamic person to drive development and validation of an animal-free pre-clinical, stem-cell based tissue model to better understand mechanisms driving the foreign body response (FBR).

Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject area or the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience in research area or be near to completion of a PhD.

This post, funded by NC3Rs, is available to 31 March 2026, with the potential to extend depending on further funding. The purpose of this role will be to develop, characterise and validate an immune-competent microfluid chip comprised of hIPSC derived fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and macrophages for the purpose of modelling the FBR. The post holder will be expected to plan and conduct work using approaches or methodologies and techniques appropriate to the type of research, and will be responsible for writing up their work for publication. There is a strong expectation that the role holder will have clearly developed experience generating macrophages from hIPSCs. The role holder will be expected to engage with members of the Hannan lab, collaborators, technicians and other research staff involved in the projects as well as members of the University of Nottingham Biodiscovery Institute as needed.

The role holder will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods and extend their research portfolio.
