In this pivotal new role, you’ll apply your expertise and experience to shape the council’s approach to its digital and social media presence. You’ll provide advice to senior leadership, council services and partners on the development and delivery of our strategies supporting our digital agenda, taking the lead on:

As the digital communications lead for the council you will work proactively across the organisation to develop and deliver a fully branded social and digital media strategy that engages effectively with our community.
You will be proactive, up to date with the latest digital communications trends and champion them with the communications team and wider colleagues to encourage a digital first approach for the Isle of Wight Council’s communications and marketing.
As an experienced and skilled individual, you’ll provide digital insights that will inform our approach to digital media developments and ensure that decision making is based on solid analytical information.

People management will be key in this role as you’ll be working collaboratively with the websites team and other communication and marketing leads from across the business.
As the Digital Comms and Marketing Manager you will be a point of contact and guidance. You’ll provide advice and examples of best practice, compliance, and innovation, along with the enthusiasm needed to grow and develop digital skills and solutions organisation wide.
You’ll proactively work closely across all council services to promote campaigns and create growth across all platforms, linking with media colleagues in service areas to ensure a consistent approach.

- Responsible for developing and implementing digital communications and marketing strategies, including organic and paid for social media, email marketing, digital accessible content etc.
- Research best practice to build and maintain the council’s digital communications, to ensure the smooth day to day running of the multiple social media platforms including organic and paid for content.
- Create, execute and monitor marketing campaigns to time, quality and cost. Identifying customer touch points and assess end to end customer experience across with diverse digital channels.
- Create engaging and accessible content across all platforms, supporting the embedding of this throughout the organisation (to include videography and photography)
- Use key analytics and other research methods to understand specific trends on each platform and be able to adjust accordingly when needed, keeping up to date on emerging trends and best practices in the social media and digital marketing landscape.
- Develop brand awareness and online reputation to identify new channels and strategies for online growth.
In your application we will be looking for evidence of your experience of successful working in this field, including reference to the following.
- Be comfortable with taking initiative and testing new strategies.
- Your experience in experience of working with digital marketing and communications channels including social media, email marketing, e-newsletters.
- Your experience of the full marketing mix from awareness to conversion.
- Demonstrating a strong knowledge of GDPR, digital accessibility legislation and WCAG.
- A sound understanding of SEO, web traffic metrics and keyword search and how this applies to wider digital communications channels.
- Social media content creation skills including photography and video.
