The registered nurse (RN) focuses on the health and wellness of individuals, families and populations in collaboration with other health care professionals by incorporating evidence-based practice in the management of acute illness, chronic disease, disability, and end-of-life care. The Personnel Scheduler assists the Clinical Managers with staff scheduling operations to meet the needs of current and future patients. The Scheduler assigns staff based on each unit’s job roles and staffing pattern. The Scheduler strives to achieve this balanced schedule based on an understanding of position control and established guidelines. The Scheduler has knowledge of staff’s FTE status, requests, PTO needs, and FMLA. Additional duties may include but are not limited to typing, filing, data collection, education, and miscellaneous support functions.
Major Responsibilities
1. Coordinates coverage across the units assigned based on guidelines established by the director and manager, staff personnel availability and skill mix to ensure safe and high-quality patient care.
2. Works collaboratively with the director and manager for assigned unit to develop and coordinate future staffing patterns while staying within budget parameters.
3. Coordinates orientation schedules and mandatory training for staff with the unit professional development nurses to achieve organizational, departmental and regulatory standards.
4. Manages employee requests (PTO, Education, Meeting, etc.) and coordinates schedule to ensure proper coverage
5. Reviews and assists in the development of staffing guidelines periodically to ensure effectiveness with achieving staffing/budget goals.

Social Workers act as consultants and leaders in comprehensive care throughout the system, while supporting organizational strategies and goals. Performs support functions to the eye practices of the department including pre-testing for appointments and various diagnostic tests.
Major Responsibilities:
1. Perform preliminary testing procedures to include measurement and verification of visual acuity and checking intra-ocular pressures. Interview patient to develop statement of visual history.
2. Responsible for administering Humphrey visual field diagnostic procedures as well as OCT analysis of optic nerve and retina. Other testing may include pentacam, pachymetery, and specular microscope.
3. Coordinate the scheduling of various surgical procedures and preparation of pre-op paperwork. Perform equipment maintenance and minor repairs. May also include outreach travel.
4. Interact with patients, pharmacies, and optical dispensaries in the release and communication of prescriptions and give appropriate advice regarding eye symptoms and problems.
5. Certain other responsibilities may include managing and ordering supplies and inventories in department, contact lens order processing, and instruction in insertion, removal, and handling of contact lenses.
6. May assist in minor surgical procedures including cleaning and sterilization of surgical equipment and instruments as well as assisting the surgeon in the procedure. Could also counsel pre- and post-opeative eye surgery patients regarding eye care instructions and medication use.
7. Support to refractive surgery program could include informing patients of preoperative and postoperative instructions, set up and clean equipment, and calculate postoperative refractive surgery results.
8. Witness waste of controlled substances with authorized staff in the state of Wisconsin. Will not witness waste in Minnesota and Iowa, both states require licensed individuals or registered pharmacy technician staff only to witness the waste of controlled substances.

The Perioperative Technician - Winona OSC, under the direction and general supervision of an RN or Provider, works with the team to provide basic care of patients and assistance during surgery and procedures. The technician will assist with data collection to facilitate the delivery of delegated patient care.

2. Demonstrates dependability, organizational skills and effective use of time by setting priorities to complete delegated work within the time frames in accordance with unit CBO and department guidelines.

4. Assists RN in admission and discharge of patients in Pre/Post surgery and procedure area. Reinforces Gundersen Health System approved teaching materials with patients and families.

6. Demonstrates competency in phlebotomy.

12. Prepares case carts, opens sterile supplies and pulls medications and suture for cases, if required by department.
13. Secures dressings on patient incision at end of the procedure, under the direct supervision of the provider, if required by the department.
14. Measures and records vital signs including temperature, blood pressure, respirations, and pulses; measure and record weights.
15. Practices sterile technique, body substance isolation and infection control precautions, as needed.
16. Demonstrates competency in computer skills when accessing clinical information as directed by the RN.
17. Creates and maintains sterile field assisting physician with procedural pain blocks.

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for performing basic care of patients under the general supervision of an RN in the acute hospital setting. Major Responsibilities:
1. Assists with basic care for patients in the areas of nutrition, elimination, comfort, mobility and safety.

The Physical Therapist in their clinical role examines, evaluates and assesses individuals of all ages who have medical problems or other health related conditions that limit their ability to move or function with activities of daily living. Major Responsibilities:
1. Works with patients and families to examine, evaluate, diagnose, prognose, and intervene to insure optimal outcomes. Also consults and educates the patient and other care-givers as needed.
2. The physical therapist works with the referring provider and other clinical staff in providing optimal care of the patient through appropriate timely methods of communication including, but not limited to, complete and accurate patient chart notes and face-to-face consultations.

The Physician Compensation Consultant partners with Executive Committee and HR leadership across our organization to design Physician compensation programs and strategies to meet business needs.
