To provide radiographic clinical leadership to research activity within the SW region which includes working with the Academy, imaging network colleagues, Trust staff and the private sector to develop, pilot and introduce software and artificial intelligence products into clinical practice. To be responsible for delivering high quality, effective research and investigations in the field of diagnostic imaging and cancer care, particularly in the development of artificial intelligence, providing and presenting reports and writing articles to the highest professional standards as required. To undertake a lead role in planning, co-coordinating, delivering, developing and evaluating artificial intelligence products in clinical services across the SW region, working with diagnostic imaging staff in multiple sites to deliver improved services to all patients including cancer patients. This is an autonomous and self-directing research role with a requirement to work flexibly to deliver the emerging diagnostic imaging research and AI in imaging agenda. This will include travel to other NHS sites across the region, other regional and national venues requiring either appropriate business car insurance or willingness to travel by public transport. To work with the SW universities and Trusts to develop a comprehensive research development and training offering to all diagnostic imaging and related staff, to be delivered by the SWITA. To proactively promote a culture of learning and the adoption of new technologies across the diagnostic imaging workforce in the SW regions imaging departments. To work collaboratively with health and IT leads across the Trusts as appropriate and promote the role of research and artificial intelligence in diagnostic imaging to all stakeholders. The post holder will also develop strong working relationships with each of the network Trusts research, development and innovation (RD&I) departments to promote and encourage engagement with research across the imaging workforce

To drive recruitment to VERVE 101 and VERVE 102 phase 1 trials. Barts is a patient identification site, so the fellow will be expected to identify and approach patients across the site(s) with either Familial Hypercholesterolaemia and/or premature CAD, who may be eligible for recruitment, providing brief information about the study and explore willingness to participate. If a patient is interested, to then liaise with Richmond Pharmacology to refer onwards. Richmond Pharmacology is a specialist trial unit who will consent and conduct more detailed selection before dosing any included participants. To support the clinical services of the CVD prevention department. This primarily includes the CVD risk and Lipids clinic but other areas may be included depending on the candidates training needs. Responsibilities will include running outpatient clinic lists, supporting MDTs, contributing to Advice and Guidance for GPs, responding to clinical queries and referrals, and support with genetic testing among other routine clinical activities of the department. To develop and pursue research ideas in the CVD risk, prevention and CAD space with the support of the consultant body. This can be done in the framework of an MD research degree or as isolated research projects, depending on the candidates preference for seeking a higher degree. If one is sought, we would expect the candidate to register the degree at either UCL or QMUL.

Clinical Practice § Maintain patient and research subject confidentiality at all times. § Assist research team in administrative duties for clinical trial start-up, initiation, maintenance, and study closure. § Work with the Research department to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. § Assist in the entry of accurate and timely documentation of data in patient Case Report Forms (CRFs) either on paper or electronic versions. § Assist the research team and monitors the resolution of raised data queries. § Assist the research teams in the maintenance of the trial site file e.g. collating and filing paperwork, obtaining signatures for the delegation log. § Assist the research team in the entry and maintenance of accurate information on databases such as the patient recruitment database. § GCP Training and IATA Training § Working on commercial and non-commercial studies and Pharmaceutical companies adhering to their research protocols and ensuring the studies are delivered effectively. § Attend Investigator meetings and Site Initiation meetings as appropriate. § Working closely with the Yorkshire and Humber Clinical Research Network. § Under supervision, or independently after the appropriate training, carry out clinical procedures required for clinical trials including but not limited to : blood pressure recordings, heart and respiratory rate, height, weight and BMI assessment, collection of blood and urine samples, measurement of hip/waist circumference and conducting ECGs. § Report all findings from clinical procedures to the clinical research team and accurately document as advised by the team in appropriate research files, logs, case report forms and databases. § Process blood and urine samples according to clinical trial protocols such as: Preparing blood slides, serum separation using a centrifuge and pipetting to separate blood and serum samples. § Preparing these samples for ambient or frozen storage and shipment as directed and arrange couriers for the safe and timely transport of all clinical samples. § Helping to run searches on electronic system, to highlight suitable patients for studies. § Assisting with monitoring visits for studies, when CRAs attend site. § Reading research protocols and SOPs. As directed, assist research participants in completing trial-related assessments such as paper questionnaires or using electronic data capture devices. Prioritise, organise, and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality. Participate in the maintenance of quality governance systems and processes across the practice. The Depertment of Medical Oncology at Southampton University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is pleased to announce a Clinical Research Fellow post in Medical Oncology.

This post is intended to support the department's research programme with particular focus ont eh delivery of early phase cancer trials including phase I and ATiMP trials. The position will be appointed for 1 year in the first instance, with opportunities for extension.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
• Join a team of research fellows supporting research within the Department of Medical Oncology and based predominantly within our Clinical Research Facility.
• The fellow will have roles in managing, coordinating and safety governance for specific early phase cancer trials.
• Be responsible for specific study-related medical decisions within their expertise, providing medical cover for studies and study visits, as well as out of hours cover, where required, on weekdays to allow for treatments that continue beyond 5pm.
• Work in teams with research nurses, allied health professionals and the relevant Principal Investigators.
• Be supported by the other fellows in Cancer Care and the Principal Investigators of the respective studies in these activities.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
• Good communication skills as this is essential in maintaining trust with our research participants.
• Flexibility and ability to adapt to changes in plans/schedules due to the fast-paced nature of early phase cancer trials work, where protocols and requirements can be complex and change very quickly.
• Demonstration of excellent teamwork as this role requires working and communicating with a wide range of individual from different teams (e.g. pharmacy, lab, admin, nursing etc).
• Must have completed Foundation Training and Core Medical Training (or equivalent) and be able to function independently, with support as/when required and specific to the individual’s level of previous experience

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).

Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process.

Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay)

Basic Salary - MT04 £55,329 Basic Salary – MT05 £63,152

Salary will be assessed based on experience and skills. Eligibility criteria for appointment to a Nodal Point 5;
• Have a minimum of 6 years of Specialty training
• Hold relevant higher specialty exam (e.g FRCP, FRCA, FRCS)
• A portfolio of evidence that demonstrates they meet the criteria for progression (in line with the Curriculum for the speciality similar to deanery trainee)

Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible.
