We now have an exciting opportunity for a committed and enthusiastic Attendance Officer to join our school. The purpose of the role is to coordinate and administer strategies to support and improve student attendance.
Key responsibilities:
checking all forms of parental communication to establish absence and accurately recording any reported absence and reasons
ensuring first response to absence, contacting home to establish reasons for absence where it has not been reported and refer to relevant staff within specified timescales
communicating attendance concerns to parents and carers
ensuring records, including registers, are accurate, updated appropriately and in a timely fashion
supporting and working with parents, carers and students through the implementation of strategies and interventions, to ensure regular school attendance
accurately keeping records of attendance procedures and interventions for referral to outside agencies for further intervention and/or prosecution
ensuring triggered electronic communication relating to attendance and punctuality are issued accurately and in a timely fashion
sending attendance and punctuality lettersacquiring and maintaining a working knowledge of the statutory framework relating to school attendance and other services to be able to offer informed advice
acting as a key contact for families, Leadership Team members, teachers, and external organisations, providing advice and guidance on attendance policies and procedures
arranging and attending attendance concern meetings, keeping accurate records of minutes and actions takenusing IT systems to monitor attendance, producing reports and maintaining records The ideal candidate will:
Be educated to at least GCSE level
Have ability to understand, interpret and follow systems, policies and procedures
Have relevant administrative experience
Have experience of using data/ information systems, spreadsheets and word processing
Have experience of working with young people (age 11 to 16) or within schools, working with students and parents
Have a clean driving licence and a car
Have experience of working successfully as part of a team which plans workload and has to respond to situations which arise
Have experience of day-to-day use of Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel)
Have ability to use initiative and problem solve
Good numeracy skills; able to analyse and interpret dataAbility to relate well to parents and prospective pupils.
