The Singapore Gastric Cancer Consortium (SGCC) is a translational research group comprising clinicians and scientists working in gastric cancer research. The group aims to solve important clinical questions to improve the care of gastric cancer patients, facilitated by close interaction between clinicians and scientists, and with synergism that enables biologic discoveries in the laboratory to be validated in the clinical setting.

Our research theme, “Bringing Discoveries to Patients” was awarded the Open Fund - Large Collaborative Grant by the National Medical Research Council in 2019. This will spearhead key research projects which include molecular testing for gastric cancer prevention, personalized cancer therapy and treatment, characterization of gastric stem cells, and single cell analysis of gastric cancers.

Duties

• Work with Research Fellow/s in the conducting of clinical research projects
• Processing and molecular analysis of patient blood and tissue samples
• Perform lab-based molecular work according to strict methodologies
• Optimizing and troubleshooting new experimental protocols
• Keep meticulous records of experimental work
• Coordinate laboratory operational activities through managing laboratory and sample inventories, establishing laboratory procedures and organization of laboratory consumables

7.45am-4.00pm, Monday to Friday inclusive, with a 30-minute unpaid lunchbreak each day. Plus an additional 5 hours per week for Rockhoppers After School Care Group and an after school club.

SALARY:

We seek to hire one full-time research assistant in AY2024/25 to support our research agendas in Development Economics, Labor Economics, Environmental Economics and Political Economy. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in cutting-edge quantitative social science and/or graduate work in economics and related fields. The research assistant will work directly with us and will learn how to handle data and code systematically, how to apply econometric methods, how to visualize quantitative research results, and how research papers in economics are developed and written.

Job responsibilities
• Clean, analyze, and collect data
• Create visualizations of research results
• Read and summarize research papers
• Assist in administrative tasks related to the research process e.g. drafting of research grant proposals, IRB applications

Required skills and interests:
• Degree in Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related fields
• A genuine interest in doing quantitative social science research in economics or related fields. If you do not have this interest you will not enjoy the work and will not find the skills you learn on the job useful.
• Stata and/or R coding experience
• Good English written and oral communication skills

Desired skills and interests (these are a plus but not required):
• An interest in development economics
• Knowledge of econometrics and economic models

Time period, location and salary
