Heating Design Engineer

The Company:
An innovative Heating Systems Development and Quality Engineer is required by this expanding heating systems company to maintain and further develop their existing and new products and systems. This is an exciting opportunity for somebody who can offer a technical understanding of theoretical and practical mechanical and electrical systems, including heating, plumbing or HVAC systems. This is a breakdown of the day to day role:
Quality Control existing product improvement: 35%
New product innovation/ development of new low temperature, low carbon solutions: 25%
Documentation updates (Adobe Illustrator & InDesign): 25%
Material cost down work (finding cheaper alternative items): 10%
2D/3D CAD design work: 5%
Full training will be given, but the ability to test and tailor systems will be essential.

Job Responsibilities:

- Contribute to project work as defined by the company’s New Product Development (NPD) programme and strategy whilst coordinating individual projects as required
- Investigate possible manufacturers/suppliers for partial or complete product supply
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of products and processes by highlighting weak areas and proposing improvements
- Carry out product/performance testing where required
- Take responsibility for ensuring that schematic system design drawings are correct whilst ensuring the correct practical application of engineering theory as it relates to UFH, heat pump and solar thermal system design calculations via the company design software.
- Generate or proof-read technical literature as required
- Assist with product training across all departments of the company as required

Preferred Skills:
Engineering Graduate (ideally Mechanical but some Electrical skills would be useful).
Detailed technical understanding of theoretical and practical mechanical engineering, preferably fluid mechanics and/or heat pumps and solar thermal systems
Excellent understanding of applied mathematics
Excellent ICT skills, ideally some understanding of programming in relation to engineering and a 3d drawing package

What You'll Be Doing:

• Potential to perform in a lead capacity, excellent written and oral communications skills, and a familiarity of industry practices and regulations are required. • Review the design according to the local codes/standards (including but not limited to QHDM, QTM, WZTMG, QCS…etc) and international codes where the local documents are not applicable.

What Required Skills You'll Bring:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil engineering from an accredited University with Professional Qualifications from a recognized International Institution and with a professional career development records all as approved by the Engineer.
• Chartered or Professional Engineer from an accredited institution is required with additional Membership of an accredited, recognized Project Management Institution is highly desirable.
• Demonstrable successful experience in a technical lead capacity in utilities design & construction of similar large scale, drainage, sewerage, surface & ground water, road networks projects within a congested city.
• Ability to coordinate, corporate and communicate with internal and external Statutory Bodies, department, government agencies, stakeholders in respect of acquiring necessary consents and approval on design and construction.
• Minimum 18 years demonstrable experience, of which 10 years as a
  Manager/Technical lead in a design management capacity of similar works.
• Must have hand on experience in managing, reviewing and approving of design documents and construction experience on site supervising large multi-engineering disciplinary project and requirements encompassing drainage, sewerage, surface & ground water, road networks design and construction.
• Experience includes but not limited to design of trunk sewers, micro tunneling sewers, etc., and must have at least two years of current experience in similar projects in Middle East etc.
• It is an essential requirement to have previous experience in managing similar open cut and micro tunneling surface & ground water networks under Design & Build projects undertaken within a developed city.

Abbott Diabetes Care has a new opening for an Algorithm Synthesis Architecture Engineer, working with the Algorithms and Decision Support group. In this position you will be a key contributor to exciting R&D projects related to next generation product development for our FreeStyle Libre platform of sensor systems.

We are looking for a candidate with strong programming and technical skills, who will excel in a matrixed environment working with algorithm development engineers that synthesize new algorithms and software developers that implement them. This person should ideally be experienced in the process of architecting and writing algorithm simulation code that works with input data formats to emulate candidate algorithm implementations used for the FreeStyle Libre platform of sensor systems, with good understanding of numerical processes utilizing the mathematical models, and extensive experience with software architecture and development.  Experience in working with an existing code system in Matlab is a highly relevant background for this position. The candidate will utilize knowledge of numerical methods, mathematics, software architecture, and data analysis in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment.  Results are expected to drive product development and clinical insights.

What you’ll work on

• This position will be responsible for participating in the development of new products.
• Responsible for designing scalability and future proofing of the algorithm synthesis tools, especially for sensor algorithm development written in Matlab.

• Able to effectively communicate and convey research discoveries into product development.  Knowledge in real-time filter design (e.g. FIR, state observer, analog filters) or mathematical modeling of dynamic systems, preferably biological systems are a plus.
• Preferable to have working knowledge of diabetes disease state (both Type 1 and Type 2) as well as current methods of disease management. 
• Solid knowledge of general engineering/science principles.
• Experience in implementing real-time signal processing algorithm.

• Track record working with and improving Matlab code environment as a common tool for multiple projects

About the Role:

Reporting directly to the Design Manager and CTO, you will be responsible for the design, development and planning of the mechanical design aspects of their projects. Taking projects from initial concept to full production and latterly customer support, you will ensure your projects are planned and delivered to meet timescales, liaising with all internal departments across R&D, procurement and production teams to provide end to end support for all products.

Candidate Requirements:

• Educated to degree level or equivalent in product design, mechanical engineering or related field
• Proven experience (2 years +) in product/engineering design, demonstrating proficiency in Solidworks or high competency in other similar software
• Creative approach to unique design challenges, with problem solving skills and an attention to detail
• Experienced in designing parts for manufacture across a number of materials and processes, including but not limited to CNC machining, turning, sheet metal, injection moulding and additive manufacturing
• Experience creating accurate version-controlled 3D and 2D drawing data for manufacturing
• Basic workshop skills; hand tools and 3D printers to create parts, test rigs and proof of concept assemblies
• Strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
• Supplier liaison with UK and overseas suppliers regarding technical specs and manufacturing support
• Ability to quickly iterate, develop and finalise design schemes to agreed timescales
• Any experience in product development for TV, Film and camera stabilisation would be a bonus, but certainly not an expectation.
