Job Description:
Reporting to the Program Coordinator, the RMT assistant instructor is responsible for assisting the instructor in content delivery and student evaluation as set out in the RMT curriculum. This responsibility includes attending all classes, organizing resources as per the instructor’s requests, assisting students during hands-on learning and marking student evaluations. The incumbent assists in duties that support the operation of the program and contributes positively to the program by demonstrating commitment, cooperation, flexibility and professional and appropriate behaviour.
Course Preparation, delivery, and administrative duties
assist with delivery of the course as described in the RMT curriculum in a passionate, and enthusiastic manner
use of a variety of teaching and assessment methods
arrange instructional support as required such as: A/V equipment and software, library
orientations, lab orientations and model preparation as directed by the instructor
mark and return assignments according to set guidelines in order to assess students in all skill areas
demonstrate effective classroom management skills
demonstrate effective time management skills
create an environment conducive to purposeful learning and positive interaction
exhibit a working knowledge of basic computer programs required for creating power point presentations and excel sheets
act as a substitute instructor in circumstances of unavoidable absence of primary instructor
maintain attendance records
grade assignments and exams as per instructions of instructor
prepare class notes when needed
assist with student orientation sessions as per program coordinator requests
attend scheduled meetings, PD days and orientation sessions
complete all administrative responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with
prescribed procedures
Qualifications Required
Education & Experience
Registered Massage Therapist in good standing with the CMTBC with two years of clinical experience (mandatory)
Bachelor degree or higher, preferably in health related discipline (desired)
Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR C
Skills & Abilities
establish and maintain effective relationships with administrators, peers, support staff, students and the community at large
remain current with relevant developments in the practice and professional development of massage therapy
maintain current certification in first aid and CPR
attend scheduled instructor and professional development meetings
perform other related duties as required
Hours for position are dependent on course and candidate availability.
Compensation: $37.75/hour (including 4% in lieu of vacation).
