Position Description:
Identifies and responds to incidents regarding the welfare, safety and/or security of students, personnel, and visitors at the Excel Center campus; maintains a safe environment at school site by enforcing policies and regulations; communicates information and responds to inquiries regarding campus safety, and provides emergency care to students and other individuals. Performs additional safety and security functions as needed in additional company locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assists community law enforcement personnel for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities within the school environment.
- Collaborates with other agencies (e.g. law enforcement, community professionals, etc.) to communicate and/or receive information regarding situations that may affect security within the school environment.
- Creates and implements safety protocol, training others.
- Supports security and safety measures by maintaining equipment, working with repairs, vendors, etc.
- Conducts independent investigations for internal and external reporting.
- Drafts and communicates school policies and enforcement procedures to students, personnel and visitors.
- Creates school illegal activity deterrence strategies, communicating and supporting administration in deterring illegal activities and enforcing the school safety policies.
- Escorts assigned personnel and/or documents (e.g. employees, visitors, etc.) for the purpose of providing direction, ensuring safety and providing security for persons and/or sensitive information.
- Reports all campus crimes and/or student related incidents and investigates criminal behavior and/or refers to outside agency for resolution.
- Completes physical security assessments and patrols school facilities (e.g. grounds, roads, buildings, adjacent areas, etc.) to maintain campus security and deter crime.
- Prepares documentation related to security incidents (e.g. incident and activity reports, safety audits/accident report logs, etc.).
- Supports school staff in response to all emergency situations.
- Testifies in court proceedings, and school administrative actions on behalf of the school as needed.
- May administer first aid for the purpose of providing immediate emergency medical care.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):
High School degree or equivalent experience
Experience working with students in a nontraditional setting and/or in adult education setting highly preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred
Ability to speak and read English proficiently
Working knowledge of computer programs to perform clerical tasks: Google applications (specifically Gmail), School Information Management System, Excel, Word and Internet Explorer
Demonstrated ability to develop relationships at all levels and relate to a diverse population
Awareness of community resources
Ability to maintain strong building presence
Ability to embrace change and flexibility
Ability to pass a background check, fingerprint clearance, and drug screen, where applicable for position
