Job Summary
The Office of the CTO (OCTO) within Equinix is chartered with driving technology innovation; technology roadmap & architecture; and thought leadership with a focus on building a closer engagement with the open-source and software developer communities.
We are launching the Equinix Open-Source Program Office (OSPO), homed within the OCTO organization, to accelerate the adoption of open-source software internally and expand contributions and active engagements in developer communities by Equinix’s engineering teams.
We are looking for a “Principal Open-Source Program Manager” to lead the newly-created OSPO function in close collaboration with key stakeholders and engineering teams across the company. This role reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer at Equinix.
As Principal Open-Source Program Manager, you will have the opportunity to help develop a company-wide framework to drive and coordinate various open-source-related initiatives; serve as an advisor and thought leader to the technical community at Equinix on questions related to open source; and closely interact with the external developer communities, such as the Linux Foundation.

Responsibilities
The Equinix Open-Source Program Office (OSPO) is responsible (directly or indirectly) for the following:
Inbound open source (use of external open-source projects): Manage policies and license compliance, collaborate with engineering, InfoSec and release teams. Manage relationships with open-source tool vendors
Outbound open source (release and management of internal open-source projects): Manage public projects on GitHub, and collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including Developer Relations, Legal, Engineering and Product
Open-source funding: Support the funding process for internal and external open-source initiatives
Promotion of open-source mindset and practices internally: Train developers on open-source policies and practices. Develop and provide introduction content for new-hire onboarding
External collaboration: Maintain relationships with open-source practitioners at external organizations, including the TODO Group, the Linux Foundation, CHAOSS and OSSF
Other: Develop and publish metrics on open-source contributions. Work with Marketing to publicize open-source activities. Manage GitHub permissions, access, and settings
Qualifications
Preferably, a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related engineering field
Proven years of relevant technology, software engineering and/or open-source experience, including within at least one technology domain across the infrastructure stack. Proven years' experience is preferred
Experience with open technologies, cloud-native ecosystems, and open-source & developer communities such as the Linux Foundation
Experience developing code deployed in large-scale infrastructures. Experience examples include infrastructure engineering, DevOps, tooling/product/API development, open-source contributions, etc.
Solid technical understanding of distributed infrastructure and hybrid, multi-cloud architectures (engineering/operations experience a bonus)
Excellent writing and verbal communications skills from engineering to executive
Excellent collaboration and people skills
