A Maintenance Assistant is responsible for carrying out appropriate maintenance work promptly and to the highest standards to deliver an excellent Guest and Member experience.

The Maintenance department is looking to recruit a maintenance assistant to take on the role of a Ward Maintenance Support Worker.

The role will undertake planned and reactive maintenance of essential systems across the diverse building services of the Trust estate.

You will need to have the ability to analyze faults and undertake rectifications to ensure continuity of service.

We are seeking a highly motivated and professional individual who has the ability to prioritise workloads, identify potential improvement within their work area and be proactive in providing a high level of service to staff, patients and site visitors.

The Ward Maintenance team are allocated specific areas of the Hospital site where they are tasked with the daily maintenance of their respective areas. Typical duties include replacing ceiling tiles, unblocking sinks, replacing light tubes/lamps, filling in simple holes in walls, fire alarm tests, re-fixing items that fall off the walls etc. in accordance with the Trusts 21 Standards.

• Suggests cost savings equipment when replacement is necessary.
• Estimates cost of parts, and supplies to be used during scheduled maintenance.
• Reviews manufacturer’s service manuals and records of maintenance problems to determine optimum frequency of preventive maintenance.

Education/Experience:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience and/or training preferred.
• Valid drivers license including personal vehicle insurance coverage.  Must maintain proficiency in company sponsored training and certifications.

You’ll:

Completion of tasks either as part of the reactive or planned work programme to a high standard associated with Trust sites.
Complete documentation as part of the record systems management requirements.
Undertake a variety of works which could include one or all of the following:
Maintenance on the Dialysis Ward. Daily recording and inspection of water systems, changing of service filters, salt levels and free chlorine tests, softener inspection and regeneration if required.
Maintenance in the Operating Theatres. Cleaning and replacement of primary and secondary air filters, checking theatre lighting including operating lamps.
Maintenance of the building fabric. Inspection of doors and closing devices in all areas including Theatres.
External site services and infrastructure. Inspection of main drainage system, cleaning/unblocking and working with the specialist contractors, replacement of pipework and drainage fittings.
Boiler house maintenance.
Assisting with the maintenance and testing of the fire alarm systems and attending when alarms are activated.


We’re looking for:

Have a recognised NVQ level 2 in Mechanical Engineering
Fit and able bodied in order to undertake the tasks involved.
Hold a full UK driving licence.
Possess basic computer literacy skills.
Possess knowledge of building services and general building maintenance.
Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working within building and building services maintenance.
Evidence of working within acute health care premises would be advantageous (but not essential).
