Job Description

The Laboratory for Translational and Molecular Imaging (LTMI) at Duke-NUS Medical School is looking for a Research Assistant who will execute preclinical in vivo multimodal imaging studies, including nuclear medicine (PET/SPET/CT) in the context of a multidisciplinary laboratory to aid in the evaluation, validation, and translation of novel methodologies.

The selected candidate will be tasked with management and execution of day-to-day operations of imaging-related laboratory functions, including but not limited to laboratory maintenance, study design and execution, data analysis, as well as the communication of project updates. The position provides excellent opportunities for personal growth in project management and cross-disciplinary learning within the emerging fields of immuno-oncology and infectious diseases, as well as extensive exposure to preclinical and broader research ecosystems throughout Singapore.

• Partner with group members and external stakeholders in the exploration of research literature, definition of project scope and design of experiments.
• Hands-on execution of preclinical in vivo imaging experiments in a collaborative, matrixed environment involving parallel assays and end points.

Job Requirements

• Prior research expertise in academic or industrial projects utilising imaging techniques, animal husbandry, development and evaluation of rodent animal models or biomarkers/tracers. We are interested in the large-scale brain structural and functional networks in healthy developing and aging brain and symptoms-related changes in diseases such as neurodegenerative disorders and psychosis. Statistical, computational, and machine learning methods are developed to analyze and fuse multimodal neuroimaging data. By integrating longitudinal behavior, neuroimaging, and genotype data, our long-term goal is to investigate the interactions among brain network dynamics, behavior, diseases, and genotypes to develop non-invasive biomarkers for early detection, differential diagnosis, progression monitoring, and treatment design.

Purpose of the post

The Research Assistant (RA) will work closely with, the Principal Investigator, lab members, and collaborators to ensure smooth operation of computing servers/storage, efficient database management, and successful completion of research projects in the lab.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The research assistant will support the effort in conducting cutting-edge neuroscience and machine learning research and development. He/she has the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art neuroimaging techniques, data collection and analysis, with healthy participants and patients with neuropsychiatric diseases. He/she will be primarily engaged in computing server and storage administration (with support from external vendors), website maintenance, and neuroimage processing using automatic or semi-automatic scripts, and general IT management. He/she will also be able to learn how to conduct fMRI scans with EEG recording, interactions with patients, quality control, behavioural assessments, and implications in neuroscience and disease. The research assistant is expected to learn neuroimaging software and assist researchers in IRB application, data preprocessing and database management in various research projects. He/she will be exposed to ongoing research work in machine learning and statistical analysis in the context of neuroimaging and cognitive neuroscience. The research assistant/associate will have the opportunity to liaise and work with other collaborators across the institutes/hospitals in Singapore on research projects and contribute to the presentations and publications of research work. The Research Assistant (RA) will work closely with, the Principal Investigator, lab members, and collaborators to ensure smooth operation of computing servers/storage, efficient database management, and successful completion of research projects in the lab.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The research assistant will support the effort in conducting cutting-edge neuroscience and machine learning research and development. He/she has the opportunity to learn state-of-the-art neuroimaging techniques, data collection and analysis, with healthy participants and patients with neuropsychiatric diseases. He/she will be primarily engaged in computing server and storage administration (with support from external vendors), website maintenance, and neuroimage processing using automatic or semi-automatic scripts, and general IT management. He/she will also be able to learn how to conduct fMRI scans with EEG recording, interactions with patients, quality control, behavioural assessments, and implications in neuroscience and disease. The research assistant is expected to learn neuroimaging software and assist researchers in IRB application, data preprocessing and database management in various research projects. He/she will be exposed to ongoing research work in machine learning and statistical analysis in the context of neuroimaging and cognitive neuroscience. The research assistant/associate will have the opportunity to liaise and work with other collaborators across the institutes/hospitals in Singapore on research projects and contribute to the presentations and publications of research work. He/she will assist with any other duties of a similar nature that are delegated by the principal investigator. He/she is expected to maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures.

Qualifications

The applicant should have:

1. Bachelor’s degree or master’s degree with strong IT, engineering, computing, and/or programming skills
2. Excellent written, oral communication skills
3. Prior system administration (Linux/Mac OS) or programming experience (e.g., MATLAB, shell) is a plus
4. Seek organized, reliable, self-motivated individual who is able to work effectively with others and multitask efficiently
5. Expected to commit for at least two years

As well as developing and delivering personalised learning, you will work with colleagues to support pupils with their daily routines, transitions, and positive behaviour management.
Your responsibilitiesAs a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be required to:

• Organise the classroom and learning resources.
• Provide pupils with academic and emotional support.
• Provide personal care to pupils if required.
• Promote and encourage independence and personal development in pupils and maintain high expectations of behaviour at all times.
• Liaise with colleagues effectively for the benefit of the students and working environment.
• Provide a safe learning environment for the children.
• Get the classroom ready for lessons and clearing away afterwards to maintain a safe and clean environment.
• Record and report a pupil's progress to the teacher.

RequirementsGCSE Maths and English Language qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential.

• Have a valid in-date Enhanced DBS (preferably on the Update Service).
• Understanding of the Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
• It is essential that they have experience providing specialist support to children with SEN and preferably 1:1 support with children who have moderate to severe behavioural difficulties.
• The ideal candidate for the school is someone who has experience working with either Autism, Dyslexia, Challenging Behaviour, PLD, MLD, PECs and Makaton.
