Overview*

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will be involved in a multi-site cohort Human Biomedical Research study. You will be based at outpatient clinics across NUHS, at Alexandra Hospital or National University Polyclinics. Academic duties The Welsh Centre for Emergency Medicine Research offers exposure to a full range of research activities. The Centre undertakes quite detailed laboratory based work in the form of preclinical modelling, and a large range of both clinical and epidemiological studies. Although the candidate will be exposed to a wide range of research activities, the candidate will be encouraged to focus on an area or study of their choice. This role will give the candidate the opportunity to gain a wider understanding of research methodology and trial design (i.e. statistical design, hypothesis generating concepts). There is also the opportunity for those who are interested to undertake training in laboratory based research in clinically related studies (i.e. preclinical modelling of disease and treatment evaluation). The post holder will be a key member of the Orthopaedic Surgery Clinical Research team. They will assist in the management, co-ordination and facilitation of clinical trial activities to support delivery of current and future studies in the research team to time and target. They will provide specialist research and clinical care for participants and patients enrolling in a variety of research studies and project.

This post is open to highly motivated health care professionals with research experience in the clinical environment.

Clinical
Assist research nurses/ACP’s/Clinicians in delivery of patient care to research participants.
Support and co-ordinate obtaining and processing of blood and tissue samples in the clinical
setting as well as optimising recruitment via clinics and MDT’s.
Work alongside research nurses ensuring samples are collected and recorded per protocol.
Review and record treatments, adverse events and response to treatment to relevant study

The Opportunity:

Applications are invited for a Clinical Research Fellowship in Cardiology at the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Cardiovascular Science (CVS) with a view to obtaining a PhD. Potential applicants should contact Professor Nicholas L Mills (0131 242 6515) or Dr Kuan Ken Lee (0131 242 6515).

Professor Mills and Dr Lee’s research interests are in health data research, cardiac biomarkers, care pathways and data-enabled clinical trials. For further details see the CVS website.

Under Professor Mills and Dr Lee’s supervision, the appointee will be required to demonstrate an ability to work independently and deliver a wide range of complex tasks. They will need to demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment and self-motivation to deliver the health data research projects. During this post, the appointee will obtain a higher postgraduate (PhD or MD) degree.

This post is full-time (40 hours per week). We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.


Your skills and attributes for success:

-Registration with the General Medical Council
-Have MRCP, MRCS or equivalent.
-Have clinical experience in cardiology or medicine.
-Have experience of health data research or programming with R
