Job Description

The Heat Resilience & Performance Centre (HRPC) is a first-of-its-kind research centre, established at the National University of Singapore (NUS), to spearhead and conduct research and development to address the challenges arising from climate change & extreme heat.

We are seeking a Software Research Engineer who will play a key role in assisting in the development, execution and maintenance of the centre’s data lake. The data lake will not only serve as HRPC’s central archive of research data and findings but play an important role in the centres knowledge generation and hypothesis testing journey. The successful candidate will be part of a multi-disciplinary group comprising exercise and thermal physiologists, data scientists, biomedical engineers and researchers.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The main areas of responsibilities of the role will include:

• Building and maintaining HRPC’s data lake, while implementing functionalities agreed on with HRPC’s Data Manager and researchers;
• Develop and implement best practices and processes for HRPC’s data infrastructure;
• If applicable, collaborate with and learn from other teams brought in to work on the data lake with a view towards building in-house expertise;
• Provide guidance and training to researchers on how to use the data lake.

As HRPC expands the successful candidate will take on more responsibilities and progress towards potentially leading a team responsible for our data engineering needs.

Qualifications

Qualifications and requirements of the role are as follows:

• Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related disciplines;

Overview

We are looking for people with a strong background in Computation & data infrastructure and/or building data systems. They must be comfortable working with a range of stakeholders and functional teams including Students, Faculty, IT and External Collaborators. The right candidate will have a passion for working with numerous small research teams to assist in managing their Infrastructure needs and advise them on best practices to engineer their projects efficiently.

Responsibilities

INFRASTUCTURE MANAGEMENT (50%):
• Maintain servers, including file , web , proxy servers, including security patches.
• Allocation of compute / storage resources as needed.
• Analyse institute infrastructure needs to implement for services providing improvements to systems.
• Management of the Institute Website.
• Liaise with Global IT teams to ensure compliance to their policies and be a single point of contact for the institute for troubleshooting.
• Manage recording and streaming systems during regular seminars / Conferences and workshops.

DATA ENGINEERING (25%):
• Support research teams with advice on efficient Data Engineering practices including automation of data pipelines, data cleansing, integrity checks etc.
• Develop processes to handle remote data access / management in compliance with security best practices (and appropriate policies)
• Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.

SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT (25%):
• Create APIs for integrate data source into functional blocks of software & services.
• Create APIs for downstream usage of Data models.
• Coordinate with different functional teams to implement models and monitor outcome
• Promote security best practices for application development

Requirements

• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Operations Research, Engineering with more than 3 years relevant experience
• Experience in maintaining virtualised server infrastructure and creative problem solving within large IT infrastructure.

KEY JOB PURPOSE

As an Assistant Research Engineer specializing in Perovskite Solar Cells, you will support and contribute to the research and development activities related to the design, fabrication, characterization, and optimization of perovskite-based solar cells. Your primary responsibility will be to assist the research team in conducting experiments, analyzing data, and providing technical support to advance the understanding and performance of perovskite solar cells. • Assist in developing fabrication processes, material characterization and reliability testing of perovskite solar cells
• Assist in perovskite ink formulations for slot-die coating of large-area and uniform perovskite thin film with excellent optoelectronic properties.
• Optimizing laser scribing processes for perovskite modules
• Dedicated to the rapid development of highly efficiency perovskite solar cells and module integration
• Testing of new halide perovskite compositions
• Conceptualize and realize new device configurations with enhanced stability and efficiency
• Design and test solar cells in various sizes
• Report writing and results presentation

• Work closely with internal colleagues in Singapore and China to work in company target.

COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in materials science, chemistry, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of photovoltaic devices, semiconductor physics, and materials characterization techniques.
• Previous experience or coursework related to perovskite solar cells is highly desirable.
• Proficient in laboratory techniques, including material synthesis, device fabrication, and characterization (e.g., SEM, TEM, XRD, UV-Vis spectroscopy, impedance spectroscopy).

RESPONSIBILITIES

We will work with multipleuse cases so that we can abstract across them and develop generalized, reusable infrastructure. We will workwith specific customers so we can build useful applications on top of that infrastructure.You will contribute to the design and development of open-source software written to serve those use cases.You will work as part of a team of research engineers, developers, and domain expertise and you will beexpected to actively participate in team meetings and text-based communications. You may be asked to conduct use-inspired research at the direction of the Principal Investigator. This includes

• reading academic papers, standards publications, and related material such as blog posts and presentations;

• reading (and updating/commenting, relevant) existing software documentation;

QUALIFICATIONS

Researchers under the Programme should possess both mastery of their academic speciality, anddemonstrated practical experience producing and supporting high-quality open-source code throughcommunity engagement across multiple media.
