We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Assistant Financial Accountant to join the Finance Team based at our Head Office based in Eastbourne to support the Group’s financial operations and assist with the preparation of financial reporting for the business’ trading activities and statutory accounts.
This role sits within our busy and evolving Finance Team situated at our Head Office which supports a network of over 200 branches nationwide as well as our ecommerce businesses which have been growing significantly in recent years. What does the role of Assistant Financial Accountant involve?
Reporting to the Finance Reporting Manager, this role is integral to our Financial Accounts team with daily duties and will also involve working with colleagues to complete elements of the monthly reporting process and routine daily/weekly management reports. The successful candidate will need to be a Part-Qualified Accountant and actively studying their accounting qualification.
A real positive to this role will be the opportunity for involvement in various projects outside of BAU, providing opportunities to do ‘something different’ and enable the individual to develop their skills and experience.
Additional responsibilities will include:
Assisting with preparation of robust and timely financial information for the trading activities of the group, including analysis of company expenditure, cost centres and branches
Transactional processing duties including verifying and maintaining all necessary records for invoices, expenses, payments and transactions
Preparing, reviewing and processing journals (including month-end journals, cost allocations), calculate and justify relevant accruals, prepayments.
Review and processing of utility related invoices and analysis thereon of expenditure
Verifying expense claims submitted through the company expenses system and producing reporting on expenses with further analysis to produce insight
Involvement in preparing balance sheet reconciliations, reconciling bank balances and other financial controls to ensure robust and reliable financial information
Involvement in year-end finalisation and Trial balance preparation, support in the preparation of statutory financial statements, assisting with the annual audit process and provision of information for external advisors
Assisting with compliance requirements for Finance, including statutory financial reporting, VAT, Corporation Tax, CIS
Involvement in finance & reporting projects, particularly those impacting financial accounts reporting and finance operated systems.
What we are looking for:
Part-qualified accountant (ACA, CA, ACCA or equivalent) and actively studying
Financial Accounting experience including previous experience of balance sheet reconciliations and financial controls
Experience with financial reporting and data management, delivering high quality reports and analysis
Willingness to use initiative to resolve issues and seek solutions
Confident self-motivator with ability to manage own time effectively, work under pressure and to deadlines, with excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
Excellent written and verbal communication
Desire for continual improvement, embracing technology and driving efficient ways of working
Ability to work within a team environment as well as being proactively independent
Strong MS Excel skills required
