Data Engineer II:
The Data & Analytics team at Loblaw is hiring a Data Engineer with experience in building cloud-based modern data platforms from the ground up. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Data Engineering, the incumbent will be responsible for ingesting, wrangling, cleansing and delivering data to power our Analytics, BI and ML/AI capabilities. The successful candidate will be passionate about data and have a strong foundation of data management concepts and engineering best practices.
What You’ll Do:
- Design and develop end-to-end Cloud based solutions supporting data integration, data ingestion, data observability, and data fulfilment.
- Build a Data Platform and services using the latest Cloud technologies
- Build real-time streaming and batch data pipelines, metadata services, and UI dashboards for data monitoring, controls, and prediction.
- Explore opportunities for optimization of existing data services and re-designing of data infrastructure for greater scalability and performance.
- Provide support to Data Governance initiatives such as data quality, data lineage, and metadata management, and perform root-cause analysis to answer specific business questions.
What You’ll Bring:
- Hands on experience in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
- Tenured experience in Software Engineering experience with a strong focus on data.
- Solid OO programming experience using Java or Python.
- Experience with sophisticated SQL and large relational databases such as Teradata, Oracle, or SQL Server.
- Experience with Linux environment and building CI/CD pipelines
- Ability to take initiative, being multi-task, self-starter, diligent are essential in this role
- Knowledge and experience in Data Lake and Big Data and Cloud technologies such as GCP (Dataflow, BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Airflow), AWS or Azure is an asset.
