Senior Engineer Test Development designs and develops new software and hardware to test new products. Investigates and resolves production problems involving test equipment software and hardware. Applies engineering and scientific principles to the evaluation and solution of technical problems. Exercises technical judgment in planning, organizing, performing, coordinating and/or directing engineering work. Performs engineering studies. Remains abreast of and consults on technical advancements. Identifies and routinely uses the most effective, cost efficient and best practices to execute processes; continually evaluates their effectiveness and appropriateness.
What You’ll Work On
Develops hardware interfaces, including test points within design, test methods, and test sequences for non-product software operating on electrical test equipment. Designs and develops interface circuit boards and fixtures for manufacturing testing of circuit board subassemblies and implantable medical devices.
Maintains existing equipment and non-product software, supporting design or manufacturing changes for product lifecycle. Leads or participates in technical investigations as needed.
Generates project plans and software and hardware documents relative to the resolution of problems and/or the implementation of new test software.
Identifies and resolves discrepancies between new design test requirements and test system capabilities using hardware or software designs. Interacts with other R&D functions as needed
Writes test plans and conducts verification testing of hardware and non-product software.
Coordinates design transfer of equipment and non-product software to manufacturing. Provides follow-up support to facilitate resolution of problems.
Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING
Bachelors Degree Electrical/Computer engineering or related engineering field OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience
Minimum 6 years
Progressively more responsible work experience in electrical test or test equipment design/development. Demonstrated expertise in mixed signal automated testing, including circuit design and analysis. SPICE simulation experience is desired.
Familiarity with non-product software lifecycle and validation processes and regulations.
Proven expertise in C, C++, C#, or Java. C# and C preferred. Python and embedded firmware development expertise are nice to have.
Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred. Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment. Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment. Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects. Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization. Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner. Working under general supervision, supports product development efforts by performing systems engineering tasks such as investigating, defining, analyzing, documenting and testing activities associated with the development of specific projects. The Opportunity
This Mobile Software Verification Engineer I position works out of our Sylmar, CA location.
Mobile Software Verification Engineer I Contribute to the verification and validation testing of Mobile software across Android and iOS mobile applications for Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) under a disciplined product development process that meets Abbott quality and appropriate regulatory agency requirements.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Work on verification and validation test designs, test scripts and test execution for CRM’s mobile software on Android and iOS platforms. Ensuring that all product development conforms to design specifications and coding standards for medical devices.
Design and implement test scripts in programming languages such as C#, C++, Java and/or Python. Demonstrate good understanding and application of object-oriented programming principles per Abbott’s quality system practices and policies.
Define and execute automation testing and integration testing strategy for one or more components and/or features.
Ensure traceability and compliance of code implementation with software requirements.
Contribute to assessment on existing designs for new or changing requirements.
Develop, maintain, and enhance verification and validation test artifacts including test plans and strategies, test protocols and interfaces, and implementing, troubleshooting, and maintaining automated, semi-automated and manual test code and scripts. Estimate, prioritize, plan and coordinate testing activities.
Setup and configure test equipment including devices, test servers and tools. Troubleshoot and resolve issues with test setups to ensure this does not impact test execution and results.
Develop a good understanding of the business requirements, customer workflows, data interfaces and product behavior prior to developing test designs and test scripts.
Participate in gathering and analysis of debug information towards finding the root cause of issues encountered with the mobile software and/or test code.
Participate in assessment, evaluation and deployment of new tools and test frameworks for mobile software testing.
Assist in the evaluation of selected designs as required through testing and full documentation of the results.
Work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.
Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
Ensuring that standards and safety regulations are observed. Addressing and discussing issues and proposed solutions with superiors.
Apply best QA practices to remove daily blockers.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Assist others in the design and development of interface hardware, probes, fixtures and circuit boards to test silicon wafers and medical devices.
Maintain existing software. Install changes as necessary to provide testing for updates to existing product designs.
Update all documentation to support changes.
Generate project plans and software and hardware documents relative to the resolution of problems and/or the implementation of new test software.
Identify and resolve discrepancies between new design test requirements and test system capabilities using hardware or software designs.
Write test plans and conducts design verification testing of hardware.
Coordinate transfer of device and test software into production and provides follow-up support to facilitate resolution of problems.
Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
Comply with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Electrical engineering or related engineering field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
Minimum 3 years in electrical test or test equipment design/development, as well as experience in mixed signal automatic testing.
Basic familiarity with "C/ C++" and “C#” programming or similar programming languages. Particularly, the ability to code procedural test methods using Python, within a larger software framework.
Broad familiarity or experience with mixed signal (analog/digital).
An interest in open-ended, cross-functional technical investigations across manufacturing, product design, and failure analysis.
Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.

Electrical Engineer I/II or Senior Engineer– Heart Failure [Pleasanton, CA or Burlington, MA] . The Heart Failure team is focused on helping people with heart failure manage their health and ultimately change and save lives. The engineer will be primarily working on the CardioMEMS HF system, which remotely monitors changes in pulmonary artery (PA) pressure, an early indicator of the onset of worsening heart failure, to aid physicians in preventing worsening heart failure, lower heart failure mortality rates, and improve quality of life for our heart failure patients.
