Saint Mary’s Newborn Services Division is one service across three sites; the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is based on the Oxford Road Campus (ORC) and the Local Neonatal Units based at Wythenshawe and North Manchester General Hospital. Senior Clinical Fellow in Emergency Medicine (ST4+) –80:20Research

The senior clinical fellow posts include 80% time working in the adult emergency department and 20% paid time to develop in a specialist interest of the successful candidate’s choice. The posts are open as OOPT/E for EM HSTs and as stand-alone posts for non-trainees, and can be 100% EM if required. We are also open to SAS and Specialty Doctors if that suits.

The posts provide an ideal opportunity for the successful candidates to develop their own specialist interests while working in a busy inner city university hospital, with teaching and research responsibilities and are based in the adult side of the department.

Clinical

The Position
The Postdoctoral Fellow (Academic Level A) / Research Fellow (Academic Level B) will work within the Australian Research Council Discovery Project “A systemic environmental impact metric for companies and investors” awarded to Dr Steven Lade. This project has two overarching goals: (a) to advance assessment of interactions between the planetary boundaries (see e.g. doi.org/10.1038/s41893-019-0454-4) and (b) to use this knowledge to refine and implement an “Earth system impact score” (doi.org/10.1088/1748-9326/ac2db1) for companies and investors. The project involves a large team (10+ people) of collaborators at ANU, the Stockholm Resilience Centre and the University of New South Wales. The position may also involve opportunities to interact with other international networks such as the Earth Commission. The level of this appointment, Academic Level A or B, will be determined by the appointee’s level of experience and expertise. The duration of initial funding (24 to 36 months) is constrained by the successful candidate’s start date and funding availability.

The advertised position occupies a crucial role at the interface of the project’s two main goals: analysing and assembling estimates of interaction strengths to produce and apply the Earth system impact score. Tasks may include: analysing outputs of Earth system models; designing and co-ordinating modelling protocols; literature review; independent modelling; conceptual analysis of boundary frameworks; research co-production with other team members and external stakeholders.

The Person
This position is an exciting opportunity to leverage Earth system science for transformative change towards sustainability. We are looking for a sustainability / Earth system scientist who has the technical and scientific skills to carry out scientific research on Earth system interactions, but who can also bridge the “research-practice divide” to apply their knowledge in research co-produced with end users.

As a Registered Nurse (Adult) youll be an integral part of the healthcare team at HMP Thameside by bringing your clinical skills and passion for care. You could be involved in anything from developing and leading clinics, undertaking examinations and tests as well as answering emergency bells and potentially being the first person to attend an emergency. Within this role, you will work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a nurse led service and prevent hospital admissions. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a persons care.

Exercise advanced levels of clinical judgement, knowledge and experience to enable optimal specialist community palliative care to be provided within the community setting. To provide highly specialist advice and support to the management of patients with complex needs at the end of their life within the community. To work autonomously in the assessment, management and treatment (including prescribing) for patients with specialist palliative care needs and to communicate management plans verbally and in writing to Macmillan Nurses, Consultants, GPs, Community staff, Hospital Staff and primary Healthcare teams to ensure a seamless delivery of care. To provide skilled palliative nursing interventions for patients working closely with medical and other colleagues to ensure a coordinated and effective response to complex problems, working across boundaries, including working collaboratively with senior colleagues leading on care in hospital, community and hospice settings. To make and receive direct referrals as an expert consultant nurse and take responsibility for patients with complex palliative care needs requiring review within the community, including those with non-cancer specialist palliative care needs. To engage with families and carers of patients with complex needs using advanced communication skills to identify their need, respond to them and engage other professionals as appropriate. To serve as an authoritative expert in specialist palliative care, advising colleagues on issues relating to the speciality including advanced symptom control, ethical issues at the end of life, advance care planning and complex packages of care. To develop the community specialist nursing and AHP palliative care team to deliver clinically led outpatient clinics. Develop appropriate clinical pathways of care in conjunction with clinical colleagues that are supported by underpinning research and evidence-based care or procedures.
