GLO is one of several law offices that comprise OGC and consists of three practice group areas- information law, employment and labor law, and eDiscovery, information technology and intellectual property law. The ideal candidate will have outstanding writing and editing skills. Duties:
The Assistant General Counsel for Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law assists the GLO Associate General Counsel and Deputy Associate General Counsel in managing the day-to-day operations of the practice group’s legal counseling function and other legal services for program client offices.
Other responsibilities include:
- Serving as an expert on a broad range of legal issues such as: intellectual property law issues (e.g., matters arising under the Patent Act, the Copyright Act, the Lanham (federal trademark) Act, and the Federal Technology Transfer Act); eDiscovery issues (including providing legal counsel on litigation holds and the nexus between law and technology); matters concerning third-party testimony under the Agency’s Touhy regulations; other IT, IP and information law issues, as assigned;
- Managing the work of staff attorneys on these matters;
- Providing well-reasoned legal advice to the GLO Associate General Counsel and Deputy Associate General Counsel, the General Counsel, Assistant Administrators, and other senior officials in connection with all aspects of intellectual property law, including the above-noted intellectual property law statutes, as well as on social media, third-party requests for testimony, and eDiscovery related matters;
- Assigning work to the practice group and any attorneys performing interdivisional assignments with IPIT;
- Monitoring assigned work and ensuring that issues and matters are appropriately prioritized;
- Reviewing assigned work and providing feedback to ensure the delivery of consistent, coherent, and sound legal advice;
- Acting as the contact person for high-level communications with the U.S. Department of Justice, EPA senior managers, and other U.S. government senior management officials;
- Training attorneys new to the group on matters related to the practice group’s work;
- Consulting with the GLO Associate General Counsel and Deputy Associate General Counsel on issues relating to staff, performance, promotions and awards for group members; and
- Performing other duties as assigned.

If you are selected, you will be expected to report to work as soon as practical but no later than thirty (30) days from the date you receive a final job offer. Extension of this reporting requirement may be granted only under extraordinary circumstances.
Except in special circumstances, those new to the federal government will be hired at the starting salary (step 1) of the applicable grade range listed above.
