JOB SUMMARY
The Graphic & Media Design program at Marymount University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice position (a nine-month academic year appointment) to teach undergraduate courses in Graphic & Media Design. The faculty will be required to teach three (3) courses in the Fall 2024 semester and three (3) courses in the Spring 2025 semester, along with responsibilities to the program and the school as determined by the School Director at the time of hiring. Faculty are expected to be engaged members of their programs and their schools. The position may be extended for the next academic year.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach a 3/3 course load involving some evening courses.
- Maintain office hours at times that provide appropriate access to students.
- Engaged in Program, School, and College meetings
- Develop curriculum with Graphic & Media Design faculty.
- Lead development of annual literary publication blueInk
- Assume professional and educational responsibilities as requested by the College Dean or the School Director.
- Serve as a mentor/advisor for students in the program, using your academic and work experience to prepare and guide students into a worthwhile design career in industry.
- Be engaged in a variety of enrollment and promotion activities, professional events, and career development functions for the school.
- Participate in the university community, attending all required meetings such as Faculty Council, school meetings, department meetings, and university events such as convocation, as well as engaging in the university’s professional development activities.
- Have a presence on campus and maintain office hours to support students in the program.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
A professional degree in Graphic Design or related field
Experience
- At least 5 years professional experience in the graphic design profession.
- Highly effective teacher (full or part-time) who can demonstrate excellent educational leadership and organizational skills.
- Face-to-face teaching experience at the college level. Adjunct or full-time teaching experience is preferred.

Supervision
May supervise a graduate assistant or undergraduate student worker.
Special Knowledge
Understanding of industry technologies including Adobe Creative Suite, Web Development, UX/UI
Special Working Conditions
Ability to lift 20 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A professional degree in Graphic & Media Design or related field
- Evidence of teaching excellence and/or professional practice
- Understanding of industry technologies including Adobe Creative Suite, Web Development, UX/UI
- Must be proficient in the English language (i.e. Able to read, write, speak and listen).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Graduate Degree in Graphic & Media Design
- Ability to teach industry technologies including Adobe Creative Suite, Web Development, UX/UI
