Applications are invited for a consultant post in Acute General Medicine (AGM) and Rheumatology at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust (OUHFT). The OUH NHS Trust comprises four hospitals: the John Radcliffe, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Churchill Hospital and the Horton General Hospital. Applicants will be based mainly at the Horton Hospital with sessions at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.

This is an exciting time to join AGM and Rheumatology at OUHFT and become part of a consultant workforce with a reputation for excellence. The post offers integration with a large rheumatology department which has strong academic links to the University of Oxford.

Clinical

The post-holder’s principal duties will be delivered at the Horton Hospital, but it is a condition of the appointment that the post-holder will be willing to work in any of the Trust’s locations. The post-holder will provide consultant physician services for the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, including care of acute admissions, care of outpatients, leading ward rounds and other professional activities relating to Acute General Medicine and Rheumatology.

AGM at the Horton Hospital:

The department consists of an Emergency Assessment Unit (18 beds), short stay ward (18 beds) and 2 general medical wards (28 and 30 beds). AGM consultants also provide medical care for patients on a 4-bed critical care unit (CCU) providing level 2 care, supported by anaesthetic colleagues.

There is a team of at least 8 WTE general physicians delivering AGM at the Horton. The majority of consultants work across both JR and Horton sites which helps to maintain excellent levels of communication and cohesiveness across the sites. The current consultant body consists of general physicians with specialist interests in Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Diseases, Diabetes, Endocrinology and Geratology. The department receives regular specialist input from Respiratory, Acute Oncology and Palliative care.

Inpatient teams are ward-based and consultants manage approximately 20 inpatients supported by a team of junior doctors comprising an ST3+, IMT/CMT/FY2/GPVTS and an FY1.

The OUH NHS Trust comprises four hospitals: the John Radcliffe, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Churchill Hospital and the Horton General Hospital. Applicants will be based mainly at the Horton Hospital with sessions at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.

The Horton General Hospital is located in the market town of Banbury and serves the growing population of North Oxfordshire and surrounding areas. The AGM department has recently transformed the way in which consultant-led care is delivered across the inpatient areas with a dedicated EAU consultant, ward based medical teams and increased Ambulatory care.

Please see full Job Description for full details Clinical Responsibilities: Outpatient clinics: The departments provide an outpatient service based upon shared-care protocols and consultations provided directly by consultants or clinical assistants and junior medical staff under direct supervision. The clinics are held at the Royal Berkshire Hospital or in the spoke sites (Bracknell, West Berkshire Community Hospital or Townlands Hospital, Henley-on-Thames). It is the policy of the Trust and the local CCGs to discharge patients from regular hospital follow up whenever this does not compromise patient safety or health. This policy is facilitated by the longstanding policy of close liaison between the RBFT and GPs in the Trusts catchment area. The appointee will be encouraged to develop a specialist clinic (if necessary with the assistance of a nurse specialist or of colleagues in other specialities). Inpatients The post holder will: Supervise assessment, investigation and treatment of specialty inpatients on the specialty or outliers wards together with the other departmental consultants. The Rheumatology/Diabetes & Endocrinology cover Castle ward (base ward) and Hunter/Lister wards (outlier wards). Provide support to rheumatology patients receiving day case treatment on the Battle Day Unit. Weekend cover for Castle Ward is provided by Rheumatology/Diabetes & Endocrinology Consultants on a 1 in 8 rota. Maintain and develop existing and new team-working practices involving medical staff, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, clinical psychologists and other Allied Health Professionals who form multidisciplinary team (MDT). The daily MDT board round meeting involving all team members is a cornerstone of the Units teamwork. All members of the team on the ward present their involvement in patient management at this daily meeting. The post holder will, with the other consultant(s), participate in and take an integral role in encouraging, developing and supervising this activity. With the other consultants provide specialist opinions and support to the in-patients of the other medical and surgical specialities across the Trust. This activity takes place predominantly but not exclusively in the months when the consultant is on the ward Provide prospective cover for the other consultants for all their clinical activities other than outpatient clinics. Annual, professional and study leave is thus agreed with colleagues before being booked with prospective cover in mind. Systems for leave are in place within the department and the Trust that require that adequate cover is maintained. The successful candidate will share a complex Older Peoples Ward with a colleague and will be responsible for 14 inpatients. This is supported by a team of juniors – middle grade, CMT and FY1 doctors. The post holder will be the clinical supervisor of some of these juniors. Ward cover will involve a daily consultant led board round, regular ward rounds and time for relatives meetings as well as monthly clinical governance meeting.

This post includes 2 Frailty Assessment sessions per week, this involves seeing up to 4 patients with the specialist nursing, pharmacy and therapy team in the Frailty Assessment Base for a Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment, we have access to dietitian, community therapy and REACT. There will be a share of covering the “hot phone” this is a mobile phone which enables any GP or community therapist to phone for advice, currently this is 2 – 8 calls a day and is part of the FAB session. The number of FAB session per week can be altered to accommodate the sub-specialty interest of any successful candidate. For example – Movement Disorder, Falls, Surgical Liaison, Interface Geriatrics and Frailty. The other aspect of the job will be joining a consultant colleagues covering 14 patients on one of our Older People’s Wards (complex short stay frailty unit), supported by an SpR, CMT and two FY1 doctors.

Clinical: The post-holder will work primarily on the Surgical Emergency Unit (SEU) and in the Emergency General Surgery Theatres on a shift system to provide senior input to general surgical emergency and major abdominal trauma patients, both on the SEU and in the Accident and Emergency Department. The SEU is actively developing ambulatory care in the acute surgical patient and the post-holder will be involved in leading and running this unit on a regular basis. To lead the morning ward meeting (Flow meeting) with the ward manager. To ensure the timely assessment and treatment of patients admitted to the ward. Strategic Account Manager, OOH– General Imaging (GI) Ultrasound Business

Your role:

• As a focused growth business in Philips this position will drive End to End Enterprise Account ownership ensuring all agreed business commitments and needs of the customer are met in a timely and strategic manner.

• Responsible for driving and expanding customer C suite relationships to create long term partnerships within the customer’s executive decision-making layer (Clinical, Operational & Financial) for ongoing operational execution. Understand the customer’s operating models, business challenges, critical metrics, issues, goals, and growth strategies, in order to develop Philips strategic initiatives for the account and supporting account strategies.

• This position will need to create alignment across various internal stakeholders such as the DIC National A/C team, DSL’s, AM’s, Service, Marketing, BU, Finance etc. to form strategies designed to meet customer needs.

• Solidify the Trusted Advisor Role by providing ultrasound and market insights highlighting industry trends, competitive landscape information, healthcare legislation information that assists the Enterprise DIC Account in reaching its goals and objectives.

• Leverage the Business and Partnership relationship approach to retain, convert and grow our Installed Base and build toward a full Philips solution and product portfolio standardization.

• Build a strong funnel of growth potential by working with aligned Account Managers to analyze existing contract status, standardization plans, current contracts, needs, care gaps, install base, and construction strategies to leverage into deal strategies. 

You're the right fit if:

• Four-year college degree or equivalent preferred.
• 5+ years of Field Sales experience including large account strategic selling.  Ultrasound and DIC experience preferred.
• Experience leading account teams and selling to accounts that can produce large sales volumes and/or market share growth. 
• Experience selling into accounts that are characterized by a complex sales cycle with multiple decision makers
• Engaging the interest of the customer and draw them into meaningful, in-depth conversations
• Educating the customer, not only about the sales organization's products and services, but also about industry trends and business issues within the broad OOH spectrum.
• ·Enlightening the customer about new possibilities, and act as a catalyst for innovative ideas
• You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this Sales position.
