Overview
The RN Educator functions under the direction and guidance of the Nurse Manager. The Educator serves as a consultant, change agent, and facilitator in assessing learning needs and in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational activities for the staff and patients of the assigned areas with a core focus on facility and associated departments. The Educator plans and implements teaching strategies for all levels of facility personnel. As a Clinical Expert, the Educator must demonstrate knowledge of the participant's readiness to learn and ensure the provision of competent services in the provision of a comprehensive range of services in accordance with standards of excellence, age-specific and cultural sensitivity established by Riverside Health System and facility goals and strategic plans. Performs other duties as assigned. Must be available to educate staff on all shifts as needed. Must exhibit flexibility to cover unit as needed to care for patients.

• Demonstrates competency and skills in the proactive identification and follow-through of issues to include immediate resolution.

Qualifications

• Demonstrates the ability to assess, implement, and evaluate treatments and provide appropriate individualized recommendations on the needs of the patients. Consistently demonstrate evidence-based competency in the assessment of the patient and adapts care to meet the individual patient's needs.

Overview
Responsible for teaching a variety of outpatient prenatal and parenting classes related to childbirth and infant care, in a group class setting or one-on-one. Plans, prioritizes and implements educational programs/classes which are in compliance with ACOG, APA and AWHONN objectives meeting hospital current standards (evidence based practice). Able to perform tours of Labor and Delivery and Women and Infant Care using the most updated information from departments.

• Links customer needs with community endeavors, i.e. Healthy Families, SMART BEGINNINGS, breast pump and breast feeding resources etc. and participates in related service events.
• Completes program job requirements within designated times. Assist other educators in departmental activities or completion of task. Willingness to substitute teach if needed.
• Plans, prioritizes and implements educational programs which are in compliance with American Diabetes Association objectives, RHCS Staff Development, and other identified needs. Offerings are presented clearly in both class and one-on-one. Completes curriculum timely. Assists with performance improvement activities as assigned. Provides resources to staff nurses and therapists in the area of diabetes management. Engages in client/family teaching. Effectively communicates with client/family and the interdisciplinary team.
• Child Birth Instructor attends quarterly meetings with Riverside Partners in Women’s Health physician’s and Women and Infant Care Complex Nurse Managers. This group participation/partnership will allow shared information to keep educators, Nurse Managers and physician’s updated on class information, changes to practice and current procedures. Enhances integration with customers and patients through seamless coordination of services and providing quality of care and communications.
• Accountable for teaching or providing coverage of all assigned classes. Utilizes adult learning theory to teach childbirth education classes including an overview of the labor process; coping mechanisms such as relaxation, breathing and positioning; complications of birth; pre-term labor, C-sections. Teaches a variety of classes that may be 1 (2 hour session), 4 (2 hour sessions) or an eight- hour class. Maintains record of attendance and collects class evaluations.

Experience

• Less than 1 year Experience teaching in a healthcare education setting (Preferred)

Overview
The Clinical Educator assesses plans implements and evaluates ongoing and new curricula promoting quality resident care and regulatory compliance through varied training programs required documentation and tracking and supports division wide infection prevention education and quality assurance initiatives. The primary responsibility of the Clinical Educator is to create curriculums and provide instruction that supports team members in developing and maintaining skills to provide quality resident care. The Educator performs Infection Prevention activities to include surveillance for facility associated infections and/or communicable diseases and assures compliance with state/federal regulatory standards as they pertain to infection prevention/control matters throughout all departments within the facility. Educator collaborates with education and facility teams to develop and may travel to all Lifelong Health facilities and various RHS locations to present division wide educational programs for employee orientation in-services infection prevention and annual updates and as requested. The Educator performs Infection Prevention Competency Evaluations and quality assurance activities and conducts Nurse Aide Education Program and Medication Aide Training Program as applicable. Works under the supervision of and has reporting responsibilities to the Director of Clinical Education. Exhibits high level of flexibility and adaptability to provide division support in all areas of education and infection prevention; may perform other duties as assigned. Clinically sophisticated, yet intimate and comfortable, The Gardens at Warwick Forest was one of the first centers in the area to provide Medicare skilled services. Located in Newport News, the 209-bed facility provides Nursing Long-Term Skilled Care, Memory Support, and Rehabilitation Care. What you will do

• Utilizes varied teaching methods and platforms to consistently accomplish the goals and objectives of the division. Adapts presentation methods and scheduling to meet the needs of the facility. Develops and implements curricula that drive quality improvement on the facility and division level. Validates team member engagement through the use of surveys, practice observation, retention of new team members, and leadership feedback. Engages team members with effective communication regarding infection prevention and education initiatives. Promotes growth and development of team members.
• Ensures that all regulatory and annually required education programs are offered regularly (i.e. BLS, First Aid, orientation, competency fairs, etc.). Ensures that all required sign in sheets are recorded in Netlearning and maintained in facility education records. Validates that new team member orientation paperwork is signed and retained as part of employee file. Ensures required training is offered, documented, and within state/federal regulations and RHS policy; tracks regulatory education requirements for team members and facility.
• Infection surveillance reports are completed timely and accurately. Utilizes data to identify trends, clusters, etc. and provide training, observations, and collaborates with facility leadership on implementation of new protocols and initiatives based on findings. Proactively seeks to prevent infections through real-time monitoring to identify emerging trends and clusters and advising and educating on intervention to disrupt that process. Reports trends and surveillance data to facility leadership monthly, and as needed. Reports data quarterly to QAPI committee, for follow up and change in facility practice.
• Demonstrates effective time management in performing assigned duties and responsibilities. Able to multi-task to meet the needs of division and facility. Ensures proficient new hire onboarding, timeliness of reports, tracking, communication, and observations.
• Builds positive relationships with team members, students, residents, families, visitors, and leadership.
