Duties and Responsibilities: With full consultant supervision and support, the post holder is responsible for patients on a 12 bedded quaternary paediatric cardiac intensive care unit based at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The patients, aged from neonatal to late adolescence, are primarily cardiac with over 350 cases per year. We are one of the 6 UK respiratory ECMO centres and one of the 2 UK paediatric cardiopulmonary transplant centres. We have the second biggest paediatric VAD programme in the world, using Berlin Heart. There is an active research programme with specific interests in mechanical support as a bridge to transplant, infant respiratory failure and coagulation management. The post holder will be encouraged to be involved in a research project / audit during their time in post and to present this at a national / international meeting. The post is suitable for senior trainees who want to further their cardiac intensive care experience in preparation for becoming a consultant paediatric intensivist. It is also suitable for anaesthetists who already have experience in either adult cardiothoracic intensive care or in paediatric anaesthesia. Subject to satisfactory performance and with appropriate supervision, opportunity will be given to take on a more senior role within the unit. On-call Commitments: The rota is worked as a 48 hour week full shift system. It is a hybrid 9 person rota incorporating trainees from paediatric cardiac anaesthesia, paediatric intensive care and 2 advanced critical care practitioners. The paediatric cardiology ward is covered by resident SHO with a paediatric cardiology registrar. With regard to paediatric cardiology, the role of the PICU trainee is for emergency patient review/HDU support. Education The post holder is released to attend monthly PICU teaching days and as far as possible will be encouraged and supported to attend national/international meetings as fits educational needs. There are numerous regular departmental educational meetings and training opportunities. The Opportunity

The role of the Finance and Administration Co-ordinator is to provide up to date financial information on children's care packages to the Quadrant Director of Local Delivery, Children with Disabilities Service Manager and the Children and Families finance team. Working collaboratively with social care and finance colleagues the role will ensure packages of support agreed at forum/panel are accurately recorded, set up correctly on systems, monitored and reconciled. This activity contributes to the monthly budget outturn for the service.

Accuracy and attention to detail are key attributes to this role, as is the ability to analyse data and identify any trends which might further support the management of the budget.

Accountabilities

• As active member of quadrant panels and forums provide budget oversight on social care support packages discussed. Ensure decisions are accurately recorded both for case recording, auditory and budgetary purposes.
• Responsible for actioning financial placement decisions made at panel/forum (i.e., setting up / amending direct payments, creating and overseeing purchase orders to care providers/placements and recharges to Health and Education via invoicing and journal transfers).
• Provide robust analysis and forecasting on current and future spend to local Director, Service Manager and finance colleagues and other Stakeholders as requested, including FOI requests.
• Timely reporting and reconciliation of financial expenditure to support the monthly budget outturn, following up on queries as necessary.
• Knowledge of legislative and policy funding guidance applicable within social care settings.
• Liaising with Social Workers to ensure packages of support are correctly in place to support families.
• Monitoring of direct payment accounts to ensure unused surplus funds are returned to ECC.
• Work collaboratively with the wider Children and Families function and finance to ensure budget recovery and savings exercises are progressed to maximise delivery and commissioning opportunities.
• Point of contact within the quadrant to support financial queries (from Social Workers, providers, families, and other internal and external services).

• Out-of-Hours Cover for the in-patient unit and 136 suite.

The role will involve assessment, diagnosis and treatment, ensuring that physical health is considered alongside psychological and social issues.

Applicants should hold full GMC registration and be included on the Specialist register of the GMC or they should be eligible for entry to the Specialist Register within 6 months of the interview date.

It is a requirement that applicants are Section 12 Approved at the time of commencing employment and have or are eligible to have Approved Clinician Status. Remuneration will be as set out in the terms of the New Consultant Contract according to previous experience.

Key Skills / Qualifications needed for this role:

You understand the importance of maintaining a safe working environment and have a keen eye for detail - taking pride in your work. You will see patients with a variety of physical conditions, some with very complex needs who require ongoing mental health treatment alongside their physical health needs. The Physiotherapy team comprises of 5 physiotherapists who work closely with Occupational Therapists, Therapy workers, Health and Well-being workers, Speech Therapists, Psychologists, Consultants and Nursing staff.
