Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Medical Assistant Certified is a multi-skilled clinical professional that provides indirect and/or direct patient care within the scope of practice and in alignment with the standards of excellence and quality. • Assists patient and provider with virtual health visits which may include setting up the visit through appropriate platform, pre-charting the virtual visit prior to the scheduled appointment, contacting the patient to ensure preparedness for the virtual visit, troubleshooting virtual visit issues when needed, obtaining chief complaint and health maintenance checks, medication review, and other relevant patient details prior to the actual virtual visit.
• Documents in electronic medical records (EMR) accurately and appropriately.
• Manages in basket messages in the electronic health record (EHR) under the Provider’s verbatim instructions.
• May perform front desk workflows (i.e., My Chart requests, patient registration, scheduling, phone triage, cash handling, and check-in/check-out).
• Follows up on orders, appointments, referrals, and follow up visits and collects co-pays as needed.
• Other duties include, but not limited to, ordering supplies appropriately, tracking referrals, labs and diagnostic tests, disposing of contaminated supplies, etc.

Overview

Seeking a highly skilled, experienced APP to join our growing cardiothoracic critical care team. This is a 24/7 service therefore this position requires days, nights, weekends and holidays in a rotation with the team.
In this position you will be responsible for examining, diagnosing and treating patients with complex cardiac, respiratory, and thoracic diseases under the direction of the attending physician. Our APPs play an integral role in the multidisciplinary care team by coordinating discussion, communication, and implementation of care plans with various consulting physician services, nursing, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, nutritional support, and other ancillary teams. In addition to these skills, you will be expected to have obtained competency in common ICU procedures, including but not limited to endotracheal intubation, arterial blood gas collection, arterial catheter line placement, central venous catheter line placement, temporary dialysis catheter line placement, transvenous pacemaker line placement, and pulmonary artery catheter line placement.
Our cardiothoracic critical care providers are also the rapid response team for the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab.
Our APPs are expected to manage endotracheal tubes, tracheostomy tubes, ventilators, pacemakers, sedation (MAC and Deep), interpret ABGs and VBGs as well as complex acid/base derangements, manage fluid balance goals with diuretics, hemodialysis, and CRRT, vasopressors and inotropes, XRAYS, and laboratory investigations.
Knowledge of the following advanced mechanical support devices is also expected: IABP, IMPELLA (2.5, CP, 5.0, 5.5, RP), CENTRIMAG, and ECMO (VV, VA).

The successful candidate will join the LVMC clinical radiology/diagnostic imaging service which currently includes one tenured ACVR faculty, one clinical track ACVR faculty, and seven radiology support staff.
Our small digital radiography rooms include Summit InnoVet tables and generators with a Canon workstation and Canon 14x17 True DR c-series imaging detectors, in addition to a Shimadzu MobileDaRt Evolution (Mx8 Version) Portable unit. A Canon 32 Multidetector Aquilian Large Bore computed tomography system includes a duel Stellent Flex Bayer Power injector. A GE 1.5. Tesla Signa magnet with Explorer 25.1 Software and RF Coils provide MRI studies. Nuclear medicine utilizes a custom design Enhanced Technologies Gamma Camera with Oasis Acquisition and processing software.
Our large animal digital radiography includes a Shimadzu RADspeed Pro Overhead generator with Canon Workstation including Canon 17x17 and 11x14 True DR cseries imaging detectors and MinRay Apporatus TR90B hand held generator with Sound NEXT DR for distal extremities, with 10x12 and 14x17 Varian imaging detectors. The PACS system is provided by Fuji Synapse 5. Two Philips EPIQ 7 ultrasound units are in use in the ISU Diagnostic Imaging service.
The LVMC is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide specialized care and comprehensive medical and surgical services for companion and large animals throughout Iowa and surrounding states. Our clinicians, residents, interns, technicians, staff, and senior veterinary students work collaboratively to provide 24-hour, high-quality care to animal patients.
