The role
As Engineering Design Manager, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This is an exciting opportunity to join a developing part of the business undergoing significant transformation to support the Devonport Facilities requirements of the Future Maritime Support Programme. Due to the regulatory framework in which we work, the application of Babcock's Business Management System is key.

Day to day, you'll be responsible for managing the technical aspects of a project, from identification of the need through to handover, acting as the Technical Authority single point of contact, organising and leading resources as the project demands.

Responsibilities will also include:

• Scoping and managing the technical delivery of projects throughout their lifecycle
• Supporting the Design Management Group to manage the development and delivery of complex design solutions within safety critical facilities, to quality, time and budget

Essential experience of the Engineering Design Manager:

• Have a strong technical background and demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills due to the levels of stakeholder management required by the role
• Sound understanding of designing and substantiating solutions for safety-critical applications, gained ideally from a regulated industry
• Experience of the design lifecycle and a logical approach to problem solving

Qualifications for the Design Manager:

• You will hold a Degree in a STEM subject (or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience)

Job Description:

The Datacenter Engineering Design Manager will support APAC located construction projects by working with project subject matter experts to ensure design challenges are remedied quickly. As part of the regional EPC SWAT team, the key responsibilities are to work cross functionally with other SWAT team members to provide oversight on the consistent implementation of the project SLAs and functional governance, perform project health analysis against the approved SLAs/scope/execution plan/cost/schedule, assist with the project setup, evaluate the site resource effectiveness, resolve issues, conduct spot audits, assist with onboarding and training of the site-based team. Team will be dedicated to this scope and will not be assigned to specific projects or other functional/regional activities. The project reviews and assessment will be as per the SWAT team roadmap and/or managed by exception should a critical priority is raised within the region. Team will be based in hub location and will travel together to the site as per the roadmap and business critical priorities. Travel requirements are 50-75%.

Topics for design challenges will be related to Datacenter building, power, cooling, telecom, and controls infrastructure. This person, while not be the project subject matter expert but must be suitably versed in datacenter engineering and architectural design to be able to bring technical solutions to the table, regardless of discipline. Construction best practices knowledge will also be required.

• Coordinate with project architects, engineers and designers and deliver projects aligned with the defined scope, schedule, and budget.

Applying Engineers MUST be very familiar with cables, connectors and wire harness products. Work experience in cables, connectors or wire harness industry is required.
