The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center is seeking an innovative & multi skilled candidate to join its office in New Delhi, India as a Researcher - Water Data Modelling.

Researcher - Water Data Modelling will support water data analytics-related activities and deliver diverse project requirements for CGIAR research initiatives in India under the Digital Innovation group. The ideal candidate is expected to bring recent advances in remote sensing, geospatial modeling, and innovative hydrologic modeling frameworks for advancing water data science and its application in India. The candidate will also have the opportunity to contribute to geospatial modeling and remote sensing hydrology research projects within IWMI.

• Conduct hydrologic modeling assessments for river basins/catchments; download, pre-process, and process Earth observation data, collect in situ data, and perform modeling required for setting up the WA+ model.

Postdoc Researcher: Theory of Nano Photonic Gates based on Collision Model approach

N-GAP: Nanophotonic GAtes with exciton-Polaritons

One of the main goals in the field of quantum technologies is to achieve quantum computing.

Many technologies and platforms have been suggested to build a quantum computer, including ions, atoms, electrons, and superconducting materials. Among these options, all-integrated photonic platforms that allow creating complex circuitry with a small footprint are very promising.

In N-GAP we will explore and exploit a hybrid state of light and matter, the excitonic polariton, to create a platform for quantum computing. Exciton polaritons, which emerge from the strong-coupling of an exciton and a photon, exhibit Kerr nonlinearities typically three orders of magnitude stronger than that found in standard photonic nonlinear crystals.

The main objective of N-GAP is to further enhance the nonlinearity of the polariton systems to achieve the first experimental realisation of a deterministic CNOT gate based on polariton systems, which is the essential building block of a quantum computer.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are searching for a talented post-doctoral fellow to model the dynamics of quantum light pulses interacting with non-linearities close to the quantum regime induced by a Kerr optical cavity. The candidate will build a complete framework to model light-matter interaction in a fully Hamiltonian way. The theory will rely on the so-called collision method, which has been successfully developed to model the production of entangled qubit-light states in superconducting circuits [1] and semiconducting quantum optical platforms [2]. The derived analytic expressions will be used to fit experimental data and help experimentalists to improve the performances of the device.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• You must hold a PhD or equivalent University level diploma in quantum physics.
• Principal qualifications include theoretical quantum optics and quantum open systems. A good knowledge in photonic quantum computing, whether based on continuous or discrete variables, will be a strong plus.

Introduction

ETH Zurich is one of the leading universities of the world with a strong focus on science and engineering. In 2010 it established the Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC) in collaboration with the National Research Foundation (NRF) to do interdisciplinary research on pressing problems.

In collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS), the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), SEC is undertaking a research programme on "Future Resilient Systems (FRS)". The FRS addresses the challenges with critical infrastructure systems that provide essential services to modern societies, which is of particular importance to innovation-driven economies like Singapore and Switzerland. Within this framework we are announcing the following job opening.

Task/Job description

This postdoc position aims to advance the understanding of how to translate science related to resilience research into policy and action. In particular, the focus is on how Singapore stakeholders (government agencies, industries, etc.) can advance their capabilities and integrate resilience into their processes and activities. The research shall explore how to build resilience-oriented mindsets and how to strengthen the stakeholder's capabilities to anticipate, manage and recover from disruptions (i.e. shocks). Ultimately, narrate the research in FRS into policy and action.

The postdoctoral researcher's responsibilities include the following tasks (list not exhaustive):

· Lead the programme's science-policy translation and contribute to the scientific discourse in the field of policy research.

· In alignment with the programme's strategic plans, initiate, maintain and manage the programme's relationships and interactions with government agencies and industry partners.

· Develop and coordinate an international conference on resilience.

· Support ad-hoc tasks that relate to the programme's administration.

The successful applicant must hold a PhD or equivalent University level diploma in social science and/or applied sciences (incl. engineering). The applicant must have strong competencies in translating research on resilience into policy and action. Interdisciplinary research knowledge and experience are a significant plus.

An excellent knowledge of written and spoken English is mandatory. We are looking for highly motivated and self-driven candidates, with good interpersonal skills and the ability to thrive in a diverse, multidisciplinary environment.
