GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Assists physicians and extenders in providing proper medical care for patients.  May assist as receptionist if working in a physician practice setting.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Rooms and interviews patients to obtain medical information and to measure their vital signs, weight, and height. Records information in the medical record. (40%)
• Helps physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such tasks as giving injections. (25%)
• Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the room stocked and cleaned, reordering supplies, and disposing of biohazard supplies. (10%)
• Schedules procedures and obtains authorizations as necessary. (15%)
• May collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing; give injections. (5%)

• CPR certification

• May require floating/travel between physician office locations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

• High School / GED
• CPR certification
• Completion of a Medical Assistant Program OR 1 year of Medical Assistant OR 1 year in a direct patient care role, including vital signs. Candidate experience must align with expected clinical duties (i.e., injections, phlebotomy, EKGs)

Certification Requirements:

• Employees who have: graduated from a medical assistant program within five years OR proof of one year of work experience as a medical assistant in the last three years must complete certification training and/or attempt testing within 30 days of hire and must obtain certification within 120 days of hire.

The post is a job share position with the other Research Fellow. From a clinical perspective these posts will participate in the cross site STR/Registrar trainee rota. This rota is compliant with the 2016 junior doctor contract averaging 48 hours per week. The post holder will be expected to divide their working month equally between research work and clinical duties. Our previous research fellows either undertook full-time clinical duties one week followed by one week of full-time research or had the working week divided into research and clinical duties. The exact pattern of working however can be altered depending on the preferences of the two appointees. Role of the Research Fellow: To adhere to good medical practice To maintain high clinical standards To provide: - Commitment to perform research potentially leading to a higher research degree - Six weeks notification of study/annual leave - Prospective cover for sick/annual/study leave - Three months notice to terminate employment Key Research Responsibilities: The post holders will be required to develop a clinical research project. We have several projects in burns and plastic surgery that can be developed depending on the post-holders interests. In addition, they will be required to collect and analyse data and report the results in peer-reviewed journals. Provision of care with responsibility for the management of patients with acute and chronic conditions including complex cases Referral of patients to other specialities as appropriate Out-patient activities/clinics Involvement in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings Involvement in relevant administration duties Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities Duties will be based primarily on our Pinderfields Hospital site although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all our sites. Currently, most of the elective operating is undertaken at Dewsbury and Pontefract Hospitals. The above list is not intended to be exhaustive, and it is likely duties may be altered from time to time in the light of changing circumstances and after discussion with the post holder. The MYDoc Training Programme Educational Input & Recognition Doctors appointed to a MYDoc post will receive relevant educational input. Each doctor will be allocated an Educational Supervisor and will be required to develop a Personalised Work Schedule. The weekly timetable should include a balance of these activities appropriate to your grade, role and training requirements. You are required to maintain a dialogue with your Clinical and Educational Supervisor to ensure the balance of these activities meets your developmental needs. Whilst not a recognised training post we endeavour to help the post holders achieve competencies required to apply for national ST3 training. We expect the post holders to be registered with ISCP and use an e-logbook. There will be an annual trust appraisal to review progress based on evidence within the portfolios including the WBA, MSF, MCR, personal reflections and CPD, covering both clinical, personal and professional development. Terms & Conditions and Tenure Employment will be as a MYDoc Research Registrar on Trust Terms and Conditions of Service. Appointment as a MYDoc Research Registrar is initially offered on a fixed term contract for 6 months period extendible to 12-months provided satisfactory progress based on research output, consultant feedback and documented progress on ISCP portfolio. Pay Scale These roles are equivalent to a doctor on specialty training programmes and will be paid on the equivalent nodal point. The salary for a full-time post is £55,329 per annum. The salary for this role will be paid pro rata, based on 50% of the rota pattern. The post holder will be working 50% daytime clinical work and 50% daytime research work. Additional payments will be made for full time out of hours on call duties. Both research fellows will be on the same on call line on the 1:8 or 1:9 (TBC) registrar rota and will equally share the on calls between them. Depending on the rota pattern in August 2024 (1:8 or 1:9) we may be in a position, to mirror the on calls with a more senior trainee. This will mean the post holders would be on call with a more senior trainee. Should there be rota gaps, these mirrored on calls may be dissociated to allow smooth running of the department. The total number of on calls will always remain the same. Should there be locum gaps on the on-call rota, the research fellows will get first refusal to cover the locum shifts. The work will be alternate weeks clinical and academic/research work. You will be expected to do research work on site during your research week but there may be some weeks when your on-call falls during your research week. You can choose to do the on call or swap the on call into your clinical week. Please see attached job description for full details.

Whilst the needs of the service are paramount, individual training needs of the Clinical Fellow are taken into account in the job plans. The post-holders main duties are to provide support to the research team and include (depending upon experience): Attend a minimum of one clinic per week, (subject to the relevant Royal College out of program experience guidance). For clinical trials- To facilitate clinical research in accordance with ICH - GCP To work with the research team and the supervisor to build the resources required for cancer frailty research trials Education and Training Disseminate research by preparing and presenting papers and posters for meetings, conferences and publications. To organise educational sessions for registrars as appropriate Contribute to the Team meetings by providing educational session Quality, Clinical Governance and Research Work according to ICH GCP To support the team in preparation by providing expert medial advice and guidance in a timely way to resolve any issues/queries To contribute to the overall improvement of governance within the team through shared learning opportunities and supporting others to share experience Access will be provided to secretarial support, a computer, Internet access, e-mail facilities, a fax and telephone
