Position Responsibilities:

As the leader in implementing GEC projects focused on community-based management of forest, peatland, and mangrove ecosystems in Mersing, Johor, and Peninsular Malaysia, including conservation and restoration efforts, hydrology management, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions prevention, and development of sustainable livelihood programmes based on mangrove forest resources for local community groups, your responsibilities will include:

• Providing technical support on best practices in forest, peatland, and mangrove management and restoration, along with impact evaluation techniques;

• Managing and coordinating nature-based product development projects linked to sustainable livelihood;

• Supervising and guiding a team of project programme officers, supporting capacity building, knowledge sharing, and resource management to ensure the team is equipped to support GEC's current and future programmes/initiatives;
• Supporting measures to empower and enhance the livelihoods of targeted local communities;
• Developing strategic project implementation plans and supporting the sustainability of existing community programmes; 
• Establishing linkages and fostering collaboration among key stakeholders in Johor and Peninsular Malaysia; and
• Developing and implementing awareness and education programmes for school students, local communities, and other stakeholders.

 

Job Requirements:

• Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision;
• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (product development, forest/peatland/mangrove/coastal conservation biology, environmental science, social science, natural resource management, climate change, or programme management);
• Minimum 3-4 years of relevant working experience involving community-based product development or natural resource management;
• Strong people management and leadership skills, with a proven ability to mentor and motivate others;
• Willingness to work in field conditions and adapt to irregular working hours;

JOB OBJECTIVE

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    To evaluate fund applications, taking into consideration the eligibility criteria and other aspects including financial analysis, market research, competitive landscape assessment, and evaluation of the management team, followed by a recommendation to the relevant fund committee for deliberation.
2.    To process disbursements of approved funds to portfolio companies by reviewing and validating supporting documents and other supporting evidence for the disbursement and preparation of the Disbursement report for approval by the HOU.
3.    To monitor the progress of funded projects and ensure proper project execution and corporate governance practices by the portfolio companies. 
4.    To prepare and present fund applications, monitoring papers, disbursement reports and other papers to the relevant fund committees. 
5.    To ensure all information about portfolio companies are updated and uploaded into the database/information repository as per the current standard operating procedures.
6.    To ensure that all activities are conducted according to the timelines specified in the client charter and/or standard operating procedures and that all activities comply with internal and external standard operating procedures, risk and compliance requirements.
7.    To promote and share information regarding MTDC’s funds and services through internal and external networking events.
