Responsibility of Position:

As the GIS Officer for the Forest & Coastal Programme at GEC, your responsibilities will include:

• Providing technical support on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications and tools for forest and coastal management projects;
• Implementing GIS-based projects on community-based management of forests, wetlands and agroforestry in Malaysia, including conservation, rehabilitation, hydrology management, fire prevention and control, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, agroforestry, and other relevant areas;
• Developing spatial analysis and mapping products to support project planning, monitoring, and evaluation;
• Collaborating with project teams to integrate GIS into project activities and decision-making processes;
• Managing and maintaining GIS databases, ensuring data quality, integrity, and security;
• Conducting spatial analysis, modeling, and visualization to support project objectives;
• Supporting capacity building and knowledge sharing on GIS tools and applications within project teams and partner organisations;
• Assisting in the development of spatial data infrastructure and standards for project implementation;
• Contributing to the development and implementation of awareness and education programs related to GIS and spatial data for stakeholders, including school students, local communities, and other relevant groups; and
• Representing GEC at local and national meetings, conferences, and seminars related to GIS and spatial data management.

Job Requirements:

• A degree in geographic information system technology. geography, environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field;

Responsibility of Position:

To lead implementation of GEC projects on the community-based management of peatland ecosystem and agroforestry in Selangor and Peninsular Malaysia  including peatland conservation, rehabilitation, hydrology management, fire prevention and control, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, agroforestry and others are relevant including:

• Provide technical support on best practices on peatland and mangroves management and restoration as well as impact evaluation techniques
• Implementation of ongoing projects on community-based management of peatland ecosystem 
• Development of new projects and activities in partnership with local government, community and private sector as well as with other NGO.  
• Manage and guide a team of project programme officers, as well as support capacity building, knowledge sharing and resource management to ensure project team is equipped to support GEC’s current and future programme/ initiatives.
• Support measures to empower and enhance livelihood of targeted local communities. 
• Development of strategic project implementation plan and support the sustainability of existing community programme
• Train smallholders on agroforestry practices and facilitate family level agroforestry land use plan development and implementation to optimize utilization of their land;
• Provide technical support on agroforestry, horticulture and forest degradation management issues through supportive supervision during trainings & extension service to the communities involved and in the field (beneficiaries);
• Developing linkages and support for collaboration among key stakeholders in the Selangor State and Peninsular Malaysia.   
• Development and implementation of awareness and education programme for school students, local community and other stakeholders. 
• Representing GEC at local and national meetings/ conferences/seminars.

• Assist the accident investigation team to investigate the status and cause of each accident and establish measures to prevent similar accidents.
• Ensure the training and education of all personnel is being carried out to an acceptable standard. 
• Perform inspections such as hazard identification, risk assessment and determination control measures to ensure that safe work practices are implemented at site.
• To register to JKKP for jobsite register under his name.
• To prepare Safety & Health Report monthly.
