What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate will be an ACA / ACCA trainee accountant, part way through their studies or even a part qualified/ finalist trainee or fully qualified and will have at least 18 months experience within an audit team carrying out audit assignments. You will be well presented, personable and be a team player. Good experience of assisting on audit assignments is essential. Experience with a wide range of software packages, including Caseware, would be an advantage

Responsibilities

• To manage assignments in accordance with the firm's standard procedures and confirm arrangements with the client, including likely costs and billing arrangements.

• To brief staff on the client's business and the pre-assignment instructions, to supervise and control the completion of work, and to undertake 'on the job' training and appraisals where necessary.
• To ensure that the job is completed within budget, and to discuss all materials points arising with the assignment partner and client immediately, particularly in relation to any anticipated overruns.
• To liaise with the client throughout the year and to practise the principles of excellent client service at all times.
• To ensure that appropriate liaison takes place with all other departments, and that all potential client needs are identified and serviced accordingly.
• To develop a detailed knowledge of the firm's specialist services and to undertake special work in response to client needs where appropriate.
• To perform the firm's review and completion procedures, to attend the final meeting with the client, and to ensure that the client subsequently receives the final accounts and commercial management letter on a timely basis.
• To oversee adhoc advisory projects;
• To ensure the profitable recoverability of work in progress, and to bill clients on a timely basis.
• To maintain an advanced level of technical knowledge through appropriate reading and courses, and to fulfil the Institute's CPD requirements.

Personal and professional qualities

Essential:

• Candidates must be ACA or ACCA qualified.
• Previous experience operating at manager level in a similar role;
• Proven experience in managing a portfolio of clients and developing strong client relationships;
• Proven wide audit experience in producing high quality audits;
• Audit experience within the SME sector would be advantageous;
• Charity experience is also desirable but not essential;

Main Responsibilities:
Portfolio Management

• Plan, control and review client work to ensure that the jobs are completed as efficiently and effectively as possible by allocating the resources available
• Hold pre-audit meetings with clients where appropriate, to establish the events that have had an impact on the business and any areas needing particular attention
• Prepare a time budget for each assignment.
• Review all work received as soon as possible, ensuring that any issues arising are referred back to the audit staff for completion before any outstanding issues are drawn to the attention of the Partner
• Ensure that files are complete and that audit work is sufficient to enable the Partner to form an opinion on the accounts, bearing in mind the balance between cost and benefit
• Monitor work in progress on all jobs within the portfolio, communicating any potential problems and write offs to the Partner's attention on a timely basis
• Ensure all hours worked on any client are recorded correctly, enabling a true reflection of the profitability of the job to be shown
• Prepare fee schedules and bill for Partner review and approval, explaining any extra charges also identifying and explaining any write offs or profits
• Draft all management letters, finalising of accounts, letters of engagement etc.
• Attend client meetings (where appropriate).

Team Management

• Complete 6 monthly appraisals and sign off training records for all allocated members of staff ensuring that these are completed to enable staff to be developed and in turn enhance their effectiveness.
• Complete staff review forms after the end of each job identifying any areas needing further development and giving feedback to ensure improved future performance.
• Deal with day to day staff issues which may include holidays, courses, conflicts, quality of work, motivation, monitoring chargeable and non chargeable hours
• Specific office responsibilities e.g. technical contact, specific technical area expert, office accounts, client bank accounts, IT contact, marketing committee, client care committee, maintenance of the office work planner.

Business development, advisory and ad hoc work

• Identify opportunities for additional services that the firm can provide to clients
• Identify and target new clients through networking, marketing and client referrals
• Ad-hoc project work which may include compliance or value added services
• Be proactive in involving other experts i.e. Corporate Finance, Tax, Financial Services where relevant · Promote and use marketing materials and other such resources
• Coach team members in spotting opportunities and to consider the bigger picture.

Qualifications and Skills

• Fully qualified ACA/ACCA (or equivalent)
• more than 3 years post qualification experience is preferred, gained in a practice enviroment
• Up to date in CPE and recent developments in accounting standards
• Experience of OMBs covering a range of industries with a focus across accounts, advisory and audit work
• Computer packages - Excel, Word, Outlook, Sage, Xero, QBO, Caseware, VPM and Alphatax

Your new role
Working within a team of auditors ranging from graduates through to experienced qualified accountants, you will have the opportunity to work on audit assignments from planning through to delivery, reviewing financial statements and identifying areas of risk. Clients will include SME businesses, large groups and significant corporate entities, so you will gain broad experience and will have opportunities to take on more responsibility over time.

What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate for this role will possess at least 12m audit experience gained within a UK accountancy firm. You will have started studying towards professional accountancy qualifications such as AAT/ ACCA or ACA and will be an excellent communicator with clear ambition and a desire to progress your career in audit.

Highly professional independent accountancy firm seeking to recruit a part-qualified or qualified accountant to join their audit team undertaking audit assignments for a varied client base alongside some accounts preparation work.

Your new role
Working with clients from a range of industries - mostly corporate businesses within the local midlands area, you will get involved in planning and delivery of audit assignments. You will liaise with clients to efficiently and professionally obtain relevant information to support the audit process and with colleagues at all levels to work as a team to achieve deadlines. Dependent upon your previous audit experience, you may lead audits, managing the work of juniors. If studying towards professional accountancy qualifications, you will be offered full study support to enable you to complete your exams.

What you'll need to succeed
You will be at least ACA or ACCA part qualified with audit experience gained in practice either within a large UK firm or within a regional/ independent UK practice. You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, a professional attitude and a good work ethic.
