N-GAP: Nanophotonic GAtes with exciton-Polaritons

One of the main goals in the field of quantum technologies is to achieve quantum computing.

Many technologies and platforms have been suggested to build a quantum computer, including ions, atoms, electrons, and superconducting materials. Among these options, all-integrated photonic platforms that allow creating complex circuitry with a small footprint are very promising.

In N-GAP we will explore and exploit a hybrid state of light and matter, the excitonic polariton, to create a platform for quantum computing. Exciton polaritons, which emerge from the strong-coupling of an exciton and a photon, exhibit Kerr nonlinearities typically three orders of magnitude stronger than that found in standard photonic nonlinear crystals.

The main objective of N-GAP is to further enhance the nonlinearity of the polariton systems to achieve the first experimental realisation of a deterministic CNOT gate based on polariton systems, which is the essential building block of a quantum computer.

She/he will build analytical models describing the joint dynamics of optical non-linearities and propagating pulses of light in the quantum regime of interaction. A fully Hamiltonian dynamics is targeted, unlocking access to light-matter entangled states and the possibility to explore various optimization regimes for the quantum processes at play. The post-doc will be involved in the modeling of the first experiments in the quantum regime realized in the group of Maxime Richard (MajuLab, CQT).

Working environment- The research fellow will be hosted in the group of Alexia Auffèves in MajuLab, CQT, Singapore. The group is pioneer in the modelling of interactions between quantum emitters and propagating pulses of light. She/he will be involved in a network of collaborations with leading experimental groups in quantum computing with light. She/he will integrate the vibrant environment of the Centre for Quantum Technologies, a long-standing powerhouse of quantum. She/he will engage in the fast-paced Singaporean ecosystem, a multicultural hub and Asian leader in deep tech.

Applications are invited for a 5-month, full-time Research Project Manager post working in Bangor Business School with the Data Analytics and Financial Innovation (DAFI) Research Group.

This post will support the DAFI Group to project manage a funded project to survey Welsh businesses. The role-holder will manage the administration of the survey (conducted via face-to-face interviews), and organise and manage focus groups. The project will also involve working with DAFI group members in the production of project reports describing and analysing the findings from the survey.

The successful candidate will have at least an undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in Business or a related field with a strong analytics component, or equivalent experience. They should also be experienced in managing time-limited multidisciplinary projects, preferably involving data analytics, as well as ability to produce reports.

The successful candidate will be expected to commence as soon as possible.

The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Research Associate to join Cardiff’s team to help deliver the HyNTS project.

This position is funded through a Strategic Innovation Funding collaboration on the HyNTS project. The aim of the project is to investigate the compression of hydrogen for use in energy networks. It will test repurposing of existing compression equipment to determine if it could be used for 100% hydrogen transmission. 

Project partners include Cardiff University, Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery, Northern Gas Networks, Southern Gas Networks, DNV Services UK, Premtech and Cullum Detuners. Under the beta phase, the project has been awarded £33.3 million ($42.8 million).

• Experience in research (health research, public health practice, or similar areas).
• Candidates will be required to work on-campus in an Essentia Health facility in either the Duluth, MN or Brainerd, MN area.
• Phlebotomy experience or ability to be trained in phlebotomy is ideal/preferred.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required.

To provide proactive research support to Investigators and teams seeking to set up and manage research studies within or requiring support from radiology. Study management responsibilities for radiology studies. To provide support to the research team in relation to research governance responsibilities. In association with the radiology research teams, actively manage project specific activities, ensuring identified milestones and targets are met. Prepare detailed study timelines for specific projects, monitoring study progress on a continuous basis, with a clear understanding of any impact on the critical path. Identify mechanisms for the early identification of potential issues in meeting milestones and development of potential solutions, including revisions to financial flows, along with the investigator and other teams. Co-ordination of various management, steering group and project-specific team meetings to ensure appropriate progress against objectives is maintained. A conduit for regional radiology research teams across the other relevant teams supporting the project including, but not limited to Sponsor, finance, Grants & Contracts team, R&D and other support departments. Maintenance of research activity databases and assistance with the development of milestone/annual reports to the relevant funding bodies. Work collaboratively with wider R&D Team, providing support where required.
