The Associate General Counsel International Law Practice Group:

• Provides leadership of the International Law Practice Group. Provides oversight, legal advice and counsel concerning all NASA issues and activities involving international law and transactions with foreign government entities and international organizations, including International Space Station (ISS) cooperation issues and follow-on launch systems.
• Handles matters of special interest to the Agency and maintaining close liaison with Executive Branch agencies, including the White House National Security Council, Office of Management Budget, and Office of Science and Technology Policy, as well as the Departments of State, Defense, and Justice, Federal Aviation Agency, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Agency, and other agencies.
• Drafts and reviews proposed legislation, Executive Orders, and regulations affecting NASA within assigned areas of responsibility.
• Maintains currency with the body of treaty, statutory, regulatory, and court-made requirements relating to areas of responsibility and prepares specific recommendations for proposed changes in statutes, regulations, and policies; provides legal advice and counsel regarding interpretation of statutes and international agreements.
• Maintains familiarity with issues and provides assistance to NASA management and attorneys involved in resolving questions of international law, including space law, of interest to the Agency.
• Participates in interagency committees, working groups, and task forces dealing with international issues.
• Manages NASA legal support for drafting, negotiating, and concluding agreements with international partners, including foreign governments, space agencies, companies, academic institutions, and international organizations.
• Provides legal support for the NASA Export Control and counterintelligence functions.

The Assistant Inspector General for Audit is responsible for overseeing the Audit Division and audit engagements that involve all DOJ programs and operations. If selected for this position, you will gain access to invaluable work experience as part of a well-respected team that is responsible for conducting audit, evaluations and special reviews that address DOJ high-priority and sensitive subject areas. This position will also provide some administrative support to the division. Formal and/or on-the-job training will be provided as needed. Duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Knowledge of the theory and principles of management and organization including administrative practices and procedures common to organizations;
• Ability to use qualitative and quantitative analytical techniques.
• Ability to perform research (such as laws, regulations, or other program policies) for program evaluations;
• Skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, consideration, and resolution of issues or problems of a procedural or factual nature;
• Skill in conducting interviews with supervisors and employees to obtain information about organizational missions, functions, and work procedures.
• Ability to provide support and assist in studies of management techniques, processes, and styles;
• Ability to assist in assessing matters such as overall effectiveness and efficiency; compliance with established policies, procedures, and government standards; and accomplishment of intended goals and objectives;
• Provides interpretations, both in writing and orally, of programmatic milestones, accomplishments, and utilization of resources required for effective management, operations, and decision making.

If you are selected as an General Administrative & Office Support Intern, you will work with higher graded staff in support of office programs and activities to gain practical work experience that augments training in an academic course of study.

Your duties may include:

• Identifying data required for use in the management and direction of programs.
• Coordinating assigned activities in support of program operations.
• Identifying various resources (e.g. staffing equipment) required to support program operations.
• Researching and investigating new or improved business and management practices for application to agency programs or operations.
• Using office automation software to produce a variety of materials such as spreadsheets, plans, procedures, memoranda, letters, charts, database, travel requests, and presentations from rough drafts.
• Assisting in establishing and maintaining an extensive high volume suspense tracking system.
• Answering the telephone and greeting visitors, answering questions not requiring significant technical knowledge, referring the technical questions to the appropriate staff member.
• Performing other administrative and management support assignments. Using word processing software to type letters, memoranda, reports, etc. from handwritten or rough drafts, marked-up copy, and oral instructions into final, error-free copy. Ensures correct punctuation, spelling, capitalization, and grammar and verifies that the format conforms to OIG regulations, style manuals, and office procedures.
• Assembling data and using database or spreadsheet software to enter, revise, sort, or calculate and retrieve data for standard reports.
• Assisting in establishing and maintaining an extensive high volume suspense tracking system.
