In this role you will be part of a multi-functional team responsible for the isolation of therapeutic peptides and tool reagents using in vitro display technologies.
We are currently looking for someone who has a good understanding and experience of the skills required for peptide discovery and engineering to support delivery of our bio-therapeutics portfolio. In this role you will craft, lead and conduct laboratory projects/experiments, develop methods, generate, interpret and report scientific data and you will be proficient in troubleshooting and theory.
In addition, you will work on projects that will improve process efficiency and investigate new methodologies, techniques and/or equipment that may be beneficial for the peptide discovery process and/or make valuable contributions to the team's functional output.
What you'll do

Independently defines objectives, owns the planning and execution of complex experimental work to isolate and optimise peptides for projects and technology platforms.

Responsible for the isolation and optimisation of peptide-based biologics to support drug discovery projects using in vitro and in vivo technologies, may perform biochemical/cell-based assays

Independently leads, plans, prioritises work activities. Supplies to multi-disciplinary research drug discovery/technology project teams, successfully communicating forward-looking recommendations and contributes to project team decisions based on their own findings, the findings of others, and factors from outside the company

Maintains and applies extensive expertise in molecular biology, protein engineering, to facilitate drug discovery, makes detailed observations, analyses data, interprets results and devises solutions to sophisticated scientific problems.

Maintains a level of expertise through constant self-improvement utilising available training and maintains scientific knowledge through review of the scientific literature and conference attendance.

Establishes and maintains productive intra departmental and interdepartmental teamworks.

Demonstrates interpersonal communication by establishing good working relationships with team and department members and others within the company
Essential Experience
-
PhD with validated experience or BSc/higher degree with equivalent lab-based experience

Extensive experience of peptide hit identification and engineering (i.e display technologies such as phage, RNA, mammalian or yeast display), and characterisation, including in vitro biochemical and cell-based assays (e.g. ELISA, western blotting, etc.).

Molecular biology (e.g. PCR, cloning, library building, sequence analysis). Extensive experience in troubleshooting molecular biology and protein engineering methods and track-record of evaluating and implementing novel technologies

Good communication, capable of developing good working relationships with individuals across organisational boundaries and experience working within a team environment.
Desirable for the role

Experience of rationale / computational design of peptides and biologics development or use of non-natural amino acid technologies would be desirable

Experience with NGS platforms & peptide sequence analysis

Experience within pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry

Track-record in innovation, problem solving, independent innovative research
