Overall Duties
Reporting to and working closely with the Events Director – Technical Operations, the Head of Technical Officials is responsible for day-to-day management of the Technical Officials programmes within the Events Department, including:
- Management of day-to-day technical officials operations including tournament assignments and planning;
- Management and development of the professional technical officials workforce including referees, umpires, and tournament doctors;
- Technical officials policy development through consultation with key stakeholder groups including commissions, panels, Continental Confederations and working groups;
- Innovation initiatives within the technical officials area to enhance officiating accuracy and sport presentation; and
- Technical officials pathway development including working with Continental Confederations and Member Associations on recruitment, education, training, and development initiatives.

The successful candidate will have the following knowledge and experience:
Technical officials experience—both in practice and managerial terms.
Sport/tournament event operations and management.
Technical event delivery and commercialisation.
Personnel management (multi-cultural working environments will be an advantage).
Badminton experience (technical official at the highest levels will be a significant advantage).
Athlete experience—both in practice and managerial terms, would be an advantage.
a) Qualifications and Experience
1. Relevant formal qualifications – a degree in events/business/marketing/ communication management or general sports administration;
2. Significant and relevant experience in events management (preferably badminton), including experience in commercial, technical officials, and/or tournament management areas;
3. Experience in working in multi-cultural work environments.
b) Knowledge and Skills
1. A solid understanding of technical and event delivery areas of badminton:
2. Excellent interpersonal skills and proven capacity to support the work of others;
3. Strong planning and organisational skills;
4. Demonstrated ability to problem-solve;
5. Ability to prioritise large volumes of work and manage priorities;
6. Excellent English written and spoken language skills and superior presentation skills; and
7. Understanding of the events/commercial/technical areas, sports industry, and the role of an international federation / world body in the structure of an Olympic/Paralympic Games sport.
Remuneration
Negotiated with the successful candidate dependant on qualifications and experience, but appropriate to remuneration of high-quality candidates. An expected remuneration should be stated in the application.
Contract
A contract period will be offered to the successful candidate. Length of the contract to be discussed.
Performance appraisals, against mutually agreed performance objectives will be a regular part of employment.
Hours of Work
The position is contracted and full time. The nature of the work requires flexibility during busy periods and will involve work on weekends and at times during holidays. The position will also require travel overseas. No time in lieu arrangement exist for additional hours worked.
The remuneration package will reflect experience, the extent of the role, level of responsibilities, and the work requirements needed.
