The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Assistant (Radiology Technician) position, in the Department of Medicine with an affiliation to the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Program, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.

The Maier lab concentrates on geroscience research with national and international partners translating healthy longevity research into practice to improve health and healthspan.

We are seeking a full-time Research Assistant (Radiology Technician) to join our team to perform clinical assessments and clinical trial administration. Experience in clinical research is ideal but not required.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Primary responsibility of the research assistant (radiology technician, primarily focusing on dual x-ray absorptiometry) would bepreparing and educating clinical trial participants about the imaging procedure
   reviewing participants' IDs and study requirements, and maintaining participants' records during and after procedures
   perform the imaging procedure
   calibrating the equipment to ensure clear, usable images are taken of the correct area, as specified by the study protocol
   ensuring the proper sterilization and storage of the equipment, maintaining radiographic equipment, and reporting any equipment failures
   maintaining up to date knowledge of current radiology practices
   
2. When imaging is not required, research assistant will be involved in clinical research , according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in ongoing clinical studies, including:Administrating clinical assessments such as but not limited to muscular, cardiovascular and pulmonary tests
   Administering surveys, questionnaires
   Administering cognitive assessments
   

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Maintain clinical trial documentation, including SOPs, data records, equipment maintenance.
2. Assess and validate new assessment methods, particularly imaging techniques before implementing into clinical research.
3. Recruit and schedule participants for study visits.
4. Comply with clinical inventory management procedures.
5. Comply with good clinical practice.

Qualifications

1. A bachelor's degree in radiography or radiologic technology, possess license and certification to practice, training in bone densitometry using dual x-ray absorptiometry is required
2. The ability to operate and understand radiographic technology and equipment
3. Excellent communication skills with participants, staff and collaborators
4. Experience in routine clinical assessments in research studies is advantageous
5. Able to work independently and as a team member

• Working with the instructors to maintain oversight of all training owned equipment ensuring compliance with PUWER regulations and maintaining a database of inventory.

MRC Protein Phosphorylation and Ubiquitylation Unit (MRC PPU):

Division of Signal Transduction Unit (DSTT):

The Division of Signal Transduction Therapy (DSTT) was established in 1998. This division operates as a unique collaboration between scientists in the MRC PPU and signalling researchers at the University of Dundee's School of Life Sciences (Simon Arthur, Doreen Cantrell, Alessio Ciulli, Ron Hay, Angus Lamond, Henry Mcsorley, Ignacio Moraga, Adrian Saurin,) and three leading pharmaceutical companies (Boehringer lngelheim, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck Serano). The Department of Tropical Disease Biology (TDB) is a leading national and international research and teaching department with a focus on translational research of tropical infectious diseases. We are seeking a dedicated Research Technician to join our dynamic team to contribute to groundbreaking research aimed at understanding and mitigating the impact of tropical diseases on vulnerable populations worldwide.

The successful candidate will join the team dedicated to investigating the infection pharmacology of various human pathogens relevant to human health, particularly in low- and middle-income country (LMIC) settings. The primary responsibility of this role is to support an ongoing Medical Research Council (MRC) funded project focused on elucidating the antimalarial mode of action of 8-aminoquinolines through a range of in vitro biochemical, cell biology, molecular, and infection-pharmacology experiments. Additionally, the successful applicant will contribute to similar laboratory investigations concerning the infection pharmacology and therapeutics of other significant human pathogens, including but not limited to Mycobacterium, SARS-CoV-2, and antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) bacterial pathogens.


Key role responsibilities include:


Technical responsibilities: Prepare, maintain, and store adequate laboratory records of methods, sample details and results; Provide an efficient and effective technical service to research teams; Conduct in vitro biochemical, cell biology, molecular, and infection-pharmacology experiments; Collaborate with researchers and scientists to design and execute experiments; Participate in laboratory management tasks.

BACKGROUND TO THE POST

As part of the Supported Learning department WCG offers a range of courses that have been developed as an important strand in the College’s offer to Post 16 learners from Entry level to Level 2, with a specific focus on young people that are have special educational needs and disabilities. The client group comes from a variety of backgrounds with various barriers to learning and progression.

The young people may demonstrate challenging behaviours and may have a range of issues, which have prevented them from previous educational engagement. They may have a learning difficulty or have an Education Health and Care Plan, may have been excluded from school, or had considerable and lengthy absences from school. The courses are designed to reengage these young people with a strong emphasis on experiential learning and personal and social development, thus supporting these individuals to succeed and enable them to progress onto a positive mainstream course, into employment or an Internship.

MAIN TASKS

FACILITATING LEARNING
• Instruct and facilitate learning for students who may have challenging behaviours, learning difficulties, an Education, Health Care Plan.
• Liaise with Curriculum Leader, Lecturers and Training Coordinators in the delivery of the programme, including any projects and/or enterprises.
• Plan, prepare and facilitate learning opportunities that take place in the local community, exploring links to independence and social inclusion accessing facilities, transport and local services.
• Work directly with students linking feedback and information to the curriculum team for strategies and progression.
• Work with the team on the preparation and selection of learning materials to ensure an appropriate range of delivery methods to support learning and reengagement as well as the development of resources using the VLE Facilitate learning by the selection of materials and methods appropriate to students’ needs and course level.
• Contribute to the planning and review of learning programmes to ensure continuous improvement.
• Review and inform learning/assessment plans and targets for students as required, working closely with the Curriculum Leader, Training Coordinator and Lecturers.
• Adopt a holistic approach to instructing this cohort to ensure an environment is created which facilitates learning without confrontation where the students and team together agree expected behaviours within the learning environment whether in or outside the classroom.
• Promote equal opportunities at all times.

ASSESSMENT
• Assess learner’s work during the course, contributing to the verification/moderation process.
• Work with the team to assess student work.

WORK EXPERIENCE PLACEMENTS/TRIPS
• Support in the supervision of visits or trips.

ADMINISTRATION
• Attend course meetings as required.
• Administer appropriate records, including keeping their own record book, sending absence notes/cause for concern forms to the Training Coordinators, updating the team with student progress report.
• Take responsibility for specific course delivery ensuring that the resources and materials are to a level and standard required.
• Instructor Technicians are not expected to:
• To teach theory.
• To write schemes of work.
• To deal with knowledge based assessment.
