As a Physical Scientist, within the Water Resources Mission Area (WMA), Observing Systems Division (OSD), Hydrologic Network Branch (HNB), some of your specific duties will include:

• Serves as a senior physical scientist and data science expert, developing rigorous methods of scientific inquiry and analysis associated with the large data resources of the USGS-WMA and external data providers.
• Serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for atmospheric quality issues for the Water Enterprise.
• Interacts on national committees and work groups, both internal and external to USGS, to represent the agency and it scientific mission in a professional and technically sound manner.

As a Physical Scientist within the New Mexico Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

• Serves as coordinator of sediment-laboratory and related operations for the USGS New Mexico Water Science Center; works directly with center leadership to adjust /and(or) manage laboratory policies, processes, and(or) staffing;
• Serves as consultant and advisor to bureau management and other scientists on matters pertaining to specialized sediment-laboratory procedures, methods, operations, and products;
• Serves as principal contact with cooperating agencies and/or stakeholders in the planning, collection, analysis, and reporting of sediment samples and associated sample analyses;
• Leads periodic meetings with USGS personnel and(or) cooperating officials (as applicable) to discuss program potential, development, progress, and technical accomplishments;
• Conducts laboratory analyses and prepares and reviews laboratory documentation (including, but not limited to, SOPs, Job aids, work plans, methods, proposals, and(or) interpretive reports) which include consideration of state of the art equipment, experimental and theoretical analyses, changing regulatory or mission needs, evaluation of all available data from various sources, and the development of new laboratory procedures and(or) methods to meet novel requirements;
