Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Change and Project Management Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS), the GPS Manager of Learning and Development will ensure the successful development of program knowledge, policies, procedures, skills and attributes required for all members of the PLNU GPS division. This role will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and evaluating training programs tailored to enhance the skills and knowledge of team members in both program/role specific duties as well as in general professional development. Working closely with GPS Operations leadership, the GPS Manager of Learning and Development is responsible for the onboarding of all new staff members in the division and will develop and maintain a robust onboarding program utilizing our learning management system (LMS), Canvas. The role also provides continued enrichment training and support for current staff based on Bloom's Taxonomies and Adult Learning Theory. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in customer service and sales methodologies, a passion for learning and development, and the ability to create engaging and effective training materials.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Onboarding & Orientation

• Responsible for the development and implementation of onboarding training programs for new enrollment counselors, admissions counselors, tele-counselors, student success counselors, one-stop student financial services counselors, and GPS admissions support staff.

• Manage the Professional Development and Onboarding Canvas courses.

Training Development

• Create and deliver training exercises, workshops, instructional activities and training assessments to reinforce learning.

• Develop best practices for training, documentation, and execution of training programs. 

• Facilitate live training sessions, workshops, and role-playing exercises to reinforce learning objectives and promote skill development.

• Build and lead training utilizing various learning modalities and communication to increase efficacy towards student enrollment and retention.

• Stay current on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in sales and learning and development, incorporating relevant insights into training programs.

• Collaborate with all GPS departments to ensure cohesive knowledge of systems, policy and procedures, and role specific expectations.

• Partner with Academic Deans on new program launches, developing training materials for and leading training with appropriate departments to ensure program knowledge for enrollment and retention (currently through the Academic Portfolio training documents in CODA). 

• Partner with PLNU’s Assistant Director of Training and Development in Human Resources department to ensure GPS training programs are meeting university standards.

• Achieve KPIs set by the Vice Provost of Graduate and Professional Studies.

Metrics and Evaluation:

• Develop Counselor/Advisor competencies required for the various positions. Coordinate interview procedures that align with competencies along with onboarding training and deliver continuous training on competencies.

• Conduct needs assessments for GPS Operations division, develop recommendations, and implement solutions that drive improved employee productivity.

• Evaluate training program effectiveness through assessments, feedback, and performance metrics, making adjustments as needed to continuously improve outcomes.

• Monitor team performance and individual metrics to ensure ongoing alignment with team goals and KPIs for Enrollment Counselors, Admission Counselors, Tele-Counselors, Student Success Counselors, Military Advisors and One-Stop Student Financial Counselors.

• Manage the ongoing development of all team members according to the Enrichment Program.

• Manage the ongoing development of leadership and extended leadership in accordance to the GPS Leadership Competency Model.

Coaching & Team Culture

• Guide and motivate team members to achieve goals, assuring accountability and high performance in a thriving Learning Culture.

• Maintain a positive, motivating work environment and culture by seeking out and listening to team members’ feedback, communicating that feedback to GPS Leadership.

• Help identify training needs and best practices among the GPS teams, and assist with implementation of performance improvement programs; Work closely with the GPS leadership team to assess and identify training needs as well as develop their team members through career pathing (i.e. Growth Mindset).

• Implement various learning methods in GPS (i.e. coaching, job-shadowing, online training); Provide 1x1 training and coaching to enhance effectiveness within enrollment and student services roles including leadership coaching.

• Responsible for leading the three-day annual Summit with theme, workshops, guest speakers and focus for the year.

• Lead various programs including the “Train the Trainer” program and the “Recognition Program.”

• Maintain strong knowledge of industry standards and best practices and align training to ensure we exceed standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree, preferred.

• Two to three years related higher education experience required. Three to five years’ experience in higher education, preferred. Variety within higher ed roles preferred.

• Previous experience in learning and development, or training facilitation preferred.

• Proven experience in sales, with a deep understanding of sales processes, techniques, and best practices, preferred.

• Knowledge of adult learning theory, preferred.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish credibility with diverse audiences.

• Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and engaging manner.

• Demonstrates great attention to detail and follow through.
