The key aim of the role is working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team in order to develop and maintain high quality patient care and service delivery. The post holder will be a visible role model, providing clinical support and practical guidance to clinical staff across East Lancashire Chemotherapy units. You will be a change agent with a strong professional and clinical focus. You will develop and maintain an effective educational environment. You will support staff to deliver high quality effective care for patients thus improving the patients experience and care. Acting as an expert practitioner, resource and role model you will encourage evidence based practice and provide support and supervision to all staff. Working collaboratively with Matron for Cancer Services, Lead Chemotherapy nurse and other senior nurses you will be responsible for delivering education and training, yearly updates in Cancer SACT settings, and developing education and competencies in Oncology and Haematology treatments. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES To support the development of nurses whilst in clinical practice both pre-registration and post registration within designated area of work Clinical practice and supervision Workforce development MAIN DUTIES Provide supervisory expertise underpinned by theoretical knowledge, skill and practical experience, imparting specialist knowledge of clinical speciality. To provide high quality clinical support to new starters and inexperienced staff to enable them to develop their skills, values and SACT competencies to ensure the delivery of high quality care. Support practice learning to all staff; working clinically within the Chemotherapy units. Act as a resource for staff and students requiring advice or guidance on issues relating to practice learning and work with the Lead chemotherapy nurse and Matron in resolving issues and concerns. Participate in quality monitoring processes and audits to ensure a quality learning experience for students. To identify areas of performance that may need improvement and work alongside the senior nursing workforce to achieve standardisation of practice. Promote standards of care in accordance with the Trusts guidelines and policies. Assist with the implementation of local and national initiatives. To work with the senior clinical team to provide a suitable learning environment, promoting and facilitating evidence-based practice. Monitor and review clinical and professional standards of care, reporting on performance, and introducing remedial action where necessary. Professional responsibility and development Understand and work towards the specific objectives for practice educational development within Cancer services. Work within the clinical areas to ensure that all learners are supported to achieve their learning outcomes. Be flexible in ways of working to ensure all staff/ students have support in practice. Maintain an up to date Personal professional Portfolio and encourage the same for each member of staff. Participate in Individual Performance reviews and negotiate your personal development plan to meet personal and professional objectives. Be accountable for educational, professional conduct for all staff. Assist in the implementation of new policies and have a voice in the developing any new policies and procedures. Ensure all nursing practices in clinical areas are carried out in accordance with the NMC, Trust and Alliance policies. Maintain registration with professional regulatory bodies, in order to keep up to date with developments within the profession. Management and Leadership Act as a role model and demonstrate knowledge and high standards of clinical practice. Responsible for monitoring performance against requirements and seek feedback from peers and senior members of the team. Facilitate sharing of best practice both within the Trust and externally. Demonstrate effective time management and organisational skills across the work setting. Report to line manager any adverse events or near misses in accordance with the Trusts incident procedure. Maintain accurate records ensuring that confidentiality of information is adhered to in accordance with NMC and the Trust. Act within Trust policies and protocols. Promote health and safety within the clinical setting. Clinical Governance. Assist the Unit Manager in unit audit and the development and implementation of the unit action plan. Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others; participate in the development of same. Continually monitor standards of care, lead the improvement of care, through benchmarking, audit and research. Promote peoples equality, diversity and rights. Health & Safety Comply with safety instructions/policies laid down.Use, in a proper and safe manner, the equipment and facilities provided.
