JOB DESCRIPTION (STAFF NURSE)

1.         To prepare and assist Dr as a scrub nurse during surgery and other procedure

2.         To check patient VA/other investigation and assist Dr in Drs room

3.         Teach and guide new staff in the clinical setting and in OT

4.         To ensure proper handling and disposal of clinical waste and domestic waste

5.         To ensure enough supply for consumable items stock

6.         Check and record temperature and humidity in the main OT and LASIK OT daily

7.         To empty humidifier water waste in main OT and LASIK OT daily

8.         Ensure enough scrub suits and send used scrub suits to the laundry

9.         To calculate and order lens for cataract patients once Dr chooses the power.                    To ensure the lens is available/received one day before the surgery

10.     To clean and sterile instruments for storage and to make sure it is ready to be                  used when needed

11.     To check and record consignment lens stock and to request billing once the lens              is used

12.     Report to the superior if any error/problem in the clinical setting and operating                theatre

13.     Consult in Lasik and cataract treatment on pricing and surgery

14.     To discharge outpatient and surgery patients while ensuring correct patient,                      correct medication, and billing

15.     To apply initial GL if a patient is under panel insurance, make sure correct billing              during dispensary and to apply final GL

 

Requirements:

• Proven work experience as a registered nurse.
• Good knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures.
• Strong knowledge of emergency care.
• In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures (sanitation, decontamination etc.) and willingness to follow them at all times.
• A team player with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.

The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent clinical experience with the ability to study at masters level, have excellent communication skills and be able to work autonomously. The role requires the trainee to undertake the Diagnostic Hysteroscopy and Therapeutic Management course at a recognised university. The course takes up to two years and the successful candidate must be willing and able to travel to undertake this. During your training, the candidate will be expected to develop a high level of personal and professional autonomy to enable you to make clinical judgements, take responsibility for your patient and the procedure during diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures to ensure a successful patient based outcome within the acute setting. The trainee will need to be able to take a detailed history and examination, as well as explain the findings to the patient and involve them in making plans for further investigation and /or treatment. The role can be psychologically demanding (particularly if breaking bad news) but is also very rewarding. With support from the clinical trainer, commence training as a Nurse Hysteroscopist in accordance with the Bristich Society of Gynaecological Endoscopists (BSGE). Provide support for the hysteroscopy clinics in accordance with national guidelines and local protocols. Contribute towards and liaise with the multidisciplinary cancer team in the management of patient caseload, referring on as required. Undertake telephone follow-up clinics, informing patients of investigation outcomes and the management plan. Maintain accurate and contemporaneous records of patients assessment, care, treatment, and follow up. Act as an advocate for the patient in treatment decisions and choices. Use effective communication and interpersonal skills to provide information, explanation, and reassurance to patients and families, and build an environment of trust and rapport, enabling patient empowerment. Support the clinicians in ensuring all histopathology and cytology results are received and appropriately outcome. Break bad news in an appropriate and empathetic manner. Provide emotional and psychological support to service users, referring to appropriate services as required. Work within Safeguarding policy frameworks relevant to the patient group. Attend a BSGE recognised National meeting at least once every 2 years. Deal sensitively and supportively with patient/service-user issues and concerns. Collaborate with PALS/complaints service as appropriate and take a pro-active approach to resolving issues and learning from feedback. More detail about the role: If successful, we would offer a 4 - 6 week supernumerary period with your mentor before the course starts in September. The course is a 6 month course,1 day study per week which you would be expected to travel to Bristol and some online. The course is made up of face to face study, coursework, a decision making presentation and OSCE. You will be allocated one main mentor and a buddy mentor, you will work alongside them and learn- note writing, hx taking and clinical skills such as more complex wound closure/suturing, manipulations, digital nerve blocks, X-ray interpretation and systemic reviews and examinations for minor illness. The course covers Minor Illness/injury- learning about history taking, examination, differential diagnosiss, decision making/planning of all systemics- Cardio, Resp, Neuro, Abdo, MSK etc. You will be expected to travel to different areas and spend time with specialities such as Othlamology, plastics, Orthopaedics in order to fulfil course requirements Working Pattern: 37.5 hours per week, would consider part time with a minimum of 23 hours per week.
