We are seeking the services of a master mariner or marine surveyor to join our Port Hedland team. Reporting directly to the Operations Manager – Pilbara, the successful candidate will provide support to our established marine team in Port Hedland by undertaking the Ships Master / Draft Surveyor duties for vessels loading iron ore at Fortescue’s bulk berths.

Applicants Minimum Competency Requirements

The successful applicant will possess Master Mariner - Class 1 (unlimited) qualifications with a thorough understanding of dry bulk draft survey and vessel stability calculations and/or a professional Draft Surveyor with extensive bulk draft survey experience.

The successful applicant shall be a conscientious team player with a "can do" attitude possessing excellent communication, time management, attention to detail and organisational skills.

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

The role requires the following duties to be performed as a minimum:
• Undertake the Ship Master / Draft Surveyor role, ensuring the safe co-ordination of vessel operational requirements and vessel movements.
• Closely liaise with the vessels Master and/or Officers to ensure safe loading operations during the vessels port call.
• Undertake the Draft Survey role attending to draft survey requirements ensuring the vessels compliance with all Marine Safety Regulations.
• Interfacing with our customers, clients and service providers ensuring superior customer service.

Selection Criteria:
The position will require the successful candidate to pass a pre-employment medical as well as obtain a Maritime Security Identification Card as a condition of employment. Based residentially in Port Hedland, Karratha, Dampier area and Fremantle(WA), the position involves field work, irregular out of hours and weekend work.

Must be able to climb ships and shore tank ladders and stairs (working at heights of approx 25 mtrs)

It is necessary to plan, coordinate and perform work with a high degree of independence, while keeping the Project Engineer advised of significant problem areas. The work will require the ability to operate independently to evaluate the functional status of systems and facilities, construction progress, review electrical schematics, installation designs and specifications, manage project logistics, ensure compliance with safety procedures, and prepare risk mitigation plans.

• Review, document, and report on construction progress to the FAA Resident Engineer.
• Monitor construction site safety, and prepare notices of unsafe working conditions.
• Perform engineering analysis with respect to code compliance, reliability, maintainability, safety, economy, project specifications, and recommend corrective action where appropriate.
• Provide estimates of construction progress.
• Escort contractor personnel in security restricted areas.
• Maintain records of receipt, inventory and condition of Government Furnished Material (GFM).
• Prepare daily entries in the Construction Logbook.
• Maintain records of all correspondence and reports pertaining to the project.

This position requires approximately 75% travel.

Required Skills:

• Strong technical background and experience with construction projects, risk mitigation, coordination planning and documentation.
• Experience reviewing project drawings and specifications.
• Ability to obtain and/or maintain Public Trust security clearance.
• 6 years of prior relevant construction management experience such as Superintendent, Foreman, etc. or BS with 2+ years relevant experience.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $55,250.00 - $99,875.00
