Job Description Summary
This role represents the company in collective bargaining and arbitration, manages union recognition and other labour practices to ensure industrial harmony.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Works as a strategic Labor Relations Advisor in the company. Monitors labour relations trends, conduct analysis and advises management of new trends in labour practices locally and across the globe.
- Provides expert support in labour arbitrations and with government agencies (Federal Ministry of Labour & Employment, Arbitration Panels, House committees in National and State House of Assemblies etc.)
- Represents the company's position in labour relations matters including union representation and recognition, collective bargaining, and labour practices, etc.
- Responsible for applying Labour Relations strategy to build positive workforce and management relationships. Works with local and National officials of the labour unions (PENGASSAN, NUPENG etc) in fostering industrial harmony within the organization.
- Responsible for Labour Relations competency development activities in the company. Conducts research and training on labour and industrial relations issues to aid capacity building in the company.
- Conducts and participates in internal and external labour relations forums to enhance learning and leads sharing of information and best practices.
- Prepares and executes strategy for 3rd party contract negotiation.
Experience & Qualifications
- Minimum of ten (10) years’ proven experience in labour and industrial relations, Human resources consulting, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience with represented employees in an organized labour environment.
- Strong influencing and change management skills: demonstrated ability to successfully facilitate resolution of complex union-management conflict.
- Demonstrated proficiency with employment practices.
- Effective planning and organizing/project management skills: proven ability to effectively lead projects from inception to implementation; can work with no supervision and minimal guidance.
- Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma in any field of study. A master’s degree will be an added advantage.

- Communication, analytical and negotiation skills – Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to build and present recommendations and position statements, perform data analysis to tell a story and enable strategic decision-making. Demonstrated strong negotiation and influencing skills.
- Demonstrated excellent knowledge of Nigerian Labour Laws and other related regulations and global best practices.
