St Joseph's College, Gregory Terrace, is a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition for young men in Years 5 to 12. Terrace is one of the nine member schools of the Great Public Schools (GPS) Association in Queensland and, founded in 1875, is among the oldest Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA) schools. The College motto, Servire Deo Sapere or 'To Serve God is to be Wise' articulates the Terrace commitment to be a community focused on faith-centred holistic development, the pursuit of academic excellence and the creation of an atmosphere of care for young men. In fostering the Terrace Family, staff, students, parents and friends of the College work to support each other as young men journey through Terrace. The College operates across four campuses: our main campus, Waterford Place - a dedicated Year 9 campus, 10 hectares of sporting fields at Tennyson and an Outdoor Education Centre at Maroon Dam.

Secondary School Teacher: Teacher of Biology (Years 11-12) and Junior Science (Years 7-10)
This position is a continuing, full-time role.
The Teacher of Biology (Years 11-12) and Junior Science (Years 7-10) is the primary person essentially and fundamentally responsible for the education and welfare of each student and as such, is committed to the formation of the Terrace Gentleman, the enhancement of the Terrace culture of learning and teaching and the nurturing of an atmosphere of care within the College. The quality of the spiritual, academic, cultural and sporting programs of the College depends on the dedicated teacher who meets with each student daily to pursue quality education. The teacher is expected to be committed to the Mission of EREA and St Joseph’s College and in particular, promote and develop effective strategies and programs that are based on contemporary learning and teaching research and relevant to syllabus requirements.
Main duties/Responsibilities
• Be prepared for the class with subject matter and resources planned and available
• Be present to the students in a positive, supportive, non-threatening manner
• Enhance the religious atmosphere in our classrooms through class prayer, and through teaching that is aligned with Gospel values
• Be focused on the students and their learning, not allowing distractions to interfere with class time
• Teach for excellence in every activity
• Be punctual for the commencement of class and other assigned duties
• Prepare, supervise and mark student assignments and examinations and preparing reports as required by the Subject Co-ordinator, Head of Faculty or the College Leadership Team
• Follow school procedures for recording attendance, lateness, academic progress, and marking homework
• Follow school procedures for maintaining teaching resources, classroom equipment and arrangements for tidiness and cleaning
• Maintain an orderly discipline in the class consistent with the learning requirements of the students and the sensitivity of teachers in adjacent classrooms
• Use language that is inclusive and is not discriminating. Avoiding all manner of language that may offend or be psychologically harmful to any student
• Be dignified in manner and appearance and expecting appropriate respect from students in appearance, demeanour, speech and behaviour
• Set student behaviour strategies consistent with student behaviour management policy and Procedures; aiming to resolve discipline issues at the classroom level using least intrusive to most intrusive means; referring to House Deans only those matters that are sufficiently serious acute
• Aim to resolve issues of concern directly with the persons affected
• Maintain confidentiality on student and staff issues, seeking to involve others only when requested
• Speak and act in ways that express loyalty to students, fellow staff members and the College
• Perform related duties such as Pastoral Care, Grounds Supervision, and Transport supervision
• Participate with teachers in developing curriculum and best practice teaching in relevant subject areas
• Maintain contact with parents of students, through School Reports, Parent / Teacher interviews, Information Nights and necessary telephone consultations
• Celebrate events of importance with students, staff members and Terrace Community through classroom activities and by participation in special College events
• Refer to College Policy and following College Procedures for all issues affecting students, classes, other staff members and use of resources
• Attend other events as required in the hours of duty, including Open Day and Celebration of Excellence evening
• Adhere to the Policy Guidelines for EREA.

Remuneration comes under the Teacher's Award of the Single Enterprise Collective Agreement (Religious Institute Schools) ($101,789 - $108,358 p.a determined by qualifications and experience)
