This Intern position combines in-depth training and skills development with exposure to various aspects of Lonza’s Global Engineering Functions Department. The Intern is responsible to support the execution of Eng. Functions key initiatives, the implementation of process improvement programs, overall program management (PMO).

During the internship the Intern will gain a broad perspective within GE. The assignment of responsibilities and projects depends on current business needs and on the Trainee’s skills and interests as well as potential thesis topics.

Key responsibilities:

• Support preparation of the GE reporting (collection of information, data analysis, graphical visualization, follow-up actions)
• Support ongoing Eng. Functions improvement programs (implementation & tracking)
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, simplification and automation. Drive “share & reapply” of best practices.
• Support organization of internal workshops and communications (agendas, meeting minutes, action lists, etc); support engagement & collaboration initiatives
• Support the Eng. Functions Lead Team Members for ad hoc requests
• Cooperate closely with business partners from other corporate functions or stakeholders in several areas of Project management in a collaborative setting

• Plans and conducts experiments to improve process yield and downtime.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Contribute to the duties of the Engineering team. This will include exposure and assignment to various Engineering functions of a manufacturing business including exposure in the Engineering Lab, product testing, and collecting & analyzing data and records.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage and maintain lab equipment relative to elastomeric properties and data, Indentation Tester, tensile stress and strain equipment.
• Perform various Mechanical Engineering design calculations for viscosity stand and work toward a mechanical solution/correlation for diaphragm analysis
• Assist in the planning, scheduling, and reporting of project activities; conduct project specification and design review meetings; assure that all assigned projects remain on schedule where viscosity, elastomeric database, and mechanical tester are concerned for CPI and sustainability.
• Maintain appropriate engineering records for all project work
• Provide technical assistance to all internal customers, quality, and engineers
• Assist in the compilation of technical information needed for the sale and marketing of new products; this will include technical literature, performance curves, charts, engineering data, test and design guidelines
• Manage specialized endurance testing according to test specifications, and validation of CPI
• Collects data for predetermined metrics
• Participates in cross training
• Applies 5S in area

Position Summary

This internship will be located in Noblesville, Indiana. Interns will undertake short-term responsibilities in a variety of groups including electric distribution design, distribution system planning, distribution system operations, distribution asset management or distribution project management. Interns will work with staff engineers to manage/maintain equipment, assist with grid planning and sectionalization, complete designs for equipment install/replacement, and provide oversight of the distribution system.  The student selected will be assigned to specific duties once on board. In addition of the Microsoft suite of software, other software applications utilized by electric utilities will be used. In addition to working within your discipline, you may be asked to work across a multi-engineering discipline platform.

Required Qualifications

• Currently enrolled and pursuing a four-year degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program

• Cumulative GPA of at least 2.75

• Valid driver’s license

Fabrica AI Electrical Engineer Intern - Invention of Automatic Tile Grouting Robots

Fabrica AI is creating a future where ideating and developing a robot for any task takes days, not years. We believe that by training end to end controls in simulation with reinforcement learning and above that iterating hardware designs, we can automate the whole development process. At the current stage, the most important resource is a large fleet of robots to validate our approaches for our AI system and to collect data. This would help keep us grounded in reality.

To start building up the fleet, we invented an automatic tile grouting robot that boosts productivity by 5x and are piloting it on construction sites in Singapore managed by Woh Hup, BHCC, Gin Chia, Soilbuild, and Dragages. This should correspond to about 30% of the Singaporean market. We have early leads in the US and Europe as well. Tile grouting is the process of filling up the gaps between tiles after the tiles have been laid. Grouting is part of virtually every construction project and a highly laborious process, is considered one of the most physically damaging tasks resulting in tilers’ knees and back issues, and thus quality issues would also arise. We invented a patent pending robot that is able to automatically grout and clean tile gaps with only a press of a button. The operators would only need to reload grout and water.

We have also pitched at the Built Environment Demo Day 2022 organised by BCA as part of the International Built Environment Week (IBEW) and won the Rising Star Award. IBEW has drawn more than 10,000 individuals from over 100 countries.

The Advanced Materials Group at Leidos currently has an opening for a Mechanical Engineering Intern to work in our Huntsville, AL office. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals in a program to advance additive manufacturing processes. We are seeking someone with a strong academic background in engineering, excellent problem-solving skills, and a desire to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment. Primary Responsibilities

Conduct research and analysis on mechanical engineering projects and assist in the development of concepts and solutions.

Collaborate with experienced professionals to gain a comprehensive understanding of additive manufacturing systems and equipment.

Contribute to the development of project plans and timelines.

Assist in preparing technical reports and documentation.

Learn and adhere to company policies and procedures.

Attend meetings and provide updates on project progress.

Continuously seek opportunities to learn and improve skills in mechanical engineering.

Maintain communication with team members and supervisors to ensure project goals are met.

Demonstrate strong problem problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically.

Basic Qualifications

Currently enrolled in a Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering program or related discipline.
