The EHS Manager, San Diego is responsible for developing, managing, and executing EHS strategy and corporate EHS programs across all San Diego locations, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations and effective risk management. This individual will drive EHS improvements throughout all Illumina operations, as part of a highly innovative and collaborative business model. Responsibilities:
Lead a team of EHS professionals at the SD site to support implementation of EHS programs, processes, training, and systems for all San Diego (SD) locations and operations ensuring compliance with applicable laws and support the Illumina EHS mission and strategy.
Collaborate with Global EHS team to support the implementation of global EHS strategies, programs, guidelines, policies, processes, systems, tools, training, best practices, and actions.
Monitor, interpret and assess existing or emerging EHS laws, regulations, regulatory policy, and industry practices to determine operational and business impacts and develop action plans for further risk management.
Active participant on SD Leadership Teams, SD Emergency Management Team, and Americas (AMR) EHS Leadership Team.
Lead and document key EHS business processes such as EHS risk assessments, incident investigations and other occupational safety processes.
Partner and engage with SD and regional business partners to measure, analyze, and communicate EHS Key Performance Indicator (KPI) and metrics.
Manage the SD environmental programs such as hazardous waste management, industrial wastewater, storm water and air emission requirements.
Deliver EHS expertise for facilities changes, moves and enhancements in conformance with local building/fire codes.
Partner with Human Resources and Risk Management on the collaborative management of the workers compensation program
Liaison between Illumina and local SD regulatory agencies
Prepare and deliver training as needed in areas such as, but not limited to, chemical/lab safety, ergonomics, emergency response and life safety.
Frequently interact with direct reports and/or functional peer group managers, and customers to lead a cooperative effort among members of diverse project teams.
Active recipient of planning initiatives at the SD and AMR regional level, execution at site level.
Use business expertise to drive accountability and support of removing barriers during execution of initiatives.
Responsible for results, including costs, key performance indicator metrics and attainment of long-term regional strategy.

The estimated base salary range for the Manager, Environmental Health & Safety role based in the United States of America is: $115,800 - $173,800. The On-Call Environmental Health Scientist project work would support federal agencies (such as U.S. EPA and NIEHS) in conducting and reporting the results of hazard studies and supporting risk assessments of environmental pollutants and microbes.
Location: Remote. Hours: This is a part-time on-call position. The On-Call Environmental Health Scientist will work between 5 and 20 hours per week to support work on an as-needed basis. The hours are flexible.

How you will do it
Evaluate the safety management system for its effectiveness and maintaining documented continuous improvement plans to improve performance.

Review planned changes and new equipment installations prior to receipt. Approve or recommend changes in manufacturing and engineering matters of plant layout, location/relocation of machinery, equipment, facilities, safety designs and processes.
Train all new employees concerning plant safety rules and guidelines. Work with management in a joint effort to provide the worker with a safe attitude, safe surroundings and safe equipment.
Assist in managing workers compensation and reducing costs by working closely with insurance carriers, JCI workers compensation manager, attorneys and state authorities along with in-house supervisors and managers. Manage each claim from the accident report to the return of the worker for modified duty and ultimately to claim closure.
Help implement the corporate environmental management system. Collect environmental data for use in determining root-causes of compliance problems and pollution prevention opportunities. Implement proactive corrective steps.
Complete and submit applicable environmental reports in a timely fashion (such as Tier II, TRI Form R, Generator’s Residual Waste, Waste-Water Self-Monitoring, and Air Emissions Inventory).
Record and maintain spreadsheets containing all paint booth, fin press and parts washer chemical usage and air emissions.
Assist with the administration, implementation and compliance with the ISO14001 and 45001 EHS Management System (acts as the plant management representative).
Oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste program including ensuring the correct handling, packaging, labeling, storage and transportation of waste to approved treatment and/or disposal facilities.
Coordinate air emission, wastewater, storm water and waste testing.
Present safety and environmental training programs to workers and supervisors. Some standardized materials will be made available and development of site-specific training materials will be required.
Drive Safety Performance in the plant.

Position Summary:
As part of a diverse and hardworking team of specialists, you will provide technical expertise and assist in implementation of all Environmental, Health and Safety programs by interacting with Mid-Level Management. In this role you will implement policy by managing programs and working with other Fox Factory team members to drive awareness and participation. It is anticipated that about 50% of the time will be on the floor to perform observations, on the spot, and Face to Face life critical training, and report deficiencies as needed. We are seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for OSHA Programs listed below, to support the EHS program. You will take part in incident investigations and may have responsibilities for implementing specific corrective actions related to their area of expertise. You will be responsible for subsequent EHS collaboration and provide daily direction and mentorship as needed. Additionally, you will help to maintain a culture that emphasizes accountability, discipline, and attention to detail at all levels.
