JOB SUMMARY

This job is a mid-level actuarial analyst position that prepares, performs, and analyzes actuarial studies, making appropriate recommendations to actuarial management.  Develops efficient processes and applies actuarial techniques and statistical analysis to several functions, including insurance premium and pricing development, claim trend analysis, experience studies, medical economics, profitability analysis, wellness studies, predictive modeling, or claim reserving.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop efficient and transparent queries to obtain data that is appropriate to the purpose with minimal assistance and oversight.
• Develop studies, analyses, and presentation materials needed to appropriately inform decision makers.  Make appropriate recommendations to management across teams within the actuarial department.

About the Role

The incumbent’s main responsibility is product pricing and development for new and innovative life insurance products, which includes regulatory product filing as well as product implementation. About the Role

The role is responsible for large data transformation, and trend analysis to timely support financial-driven action plans for business decisions. We're looking for an Actuarial Analyst to assist in the identification and creation of cutting-edge data assets and predictive models that feed into Hastings' market-leading pricing activities.

This role is within a combined team of Actuaries and Data Scientists championing the adoption of the latest machine learning (ML) techniques to leverage powerful insights from vast amounts of customer information.



What you will do;

• Create and maintain analytical tools to support in the management of our risk portfolio.

• Develop best in-class models to predict claims outcomes, fraud and other risk KPIs.

• Engineer powerful new rating factors to be deployed into our rating algorithms.

• Identify, analyse and monetise new data sources.

What we're looking for;

Essential:

• Undergraduate degree in mathematics/statistics or a similarly numerical subject

• Undertaking actuarial exams, with the ambition to qualify as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) or equivalent professional body recognised by the IFoA's mutual recognition agreement

• 1-3 years experience building predictive models in an insurance environment

• Keen interest in emerging ML techniques and their commercial value.

• Proficiency in SQL.

• Experience in Python or R

• Ability to work cross-functionally with Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Actuaries and Pricing Analysts.

Desirable:

• Experience with the Willis Towers Watson (WTW) software suite

• Experience with using GitHub as a code collaboration tool.

Building and maintaining financial models for the assigned companies, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements. Developing and maintaining relationships with key industry contacts, including company management, industry experts, and sell-side analysts. Writing research reports and presenting investment recommendations to senior analysts and portfolio managers. Participating in team meetings and contributing to the development of investment strategies. The ideal candidate should have: A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or a related field. Experienced in healthcare or a related field. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Mandarin.
