SUMMARY
Part of IDEX Corporation, Precision Polymer Engineering (PPE, LLC), is a manufacturer and supplier of high performance, niche elastomer seals used in critical applications around the globe. PUROSE:
The Director of Operations directs and coordinates activities of the manufacturing, dispatch, planning, and purchasing functions. He or she will collaborate with Supply Chain, Engineering, Human Resources, Finance, and Quality leaders and groups to meet objectives for on-time delivery, sales execution, cost reduction, and employee engagement.
This position requires an effective communicator that will be accountable to provide leadership across all functional groups and foster a continuous improvement culture to create a highly engaged, high-performance, inclusive, and sustainable culture capable of achieving the business objectives, action plans and targets.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide leadership, direction, and manage all operations and functions to include manufacturing, operational excellence, and EHS while working interdependently with supply chain, materials, and quality departments to achieve key performance metrics
- Develop and deploy an operations strategy, evaluating capacity and capability requirements that aligns and supports the business strategy
- Responsible for contributing to and ensuring the development of and adherence to plant policies, practices, and initiatives consistent with the direction of the overall organization
- Overseeing the EHS program ensuring the site is compliant with relevant regulations and legislation
- Ensure compliance with all government, financial, environmental, and labor regulations as required
- Regularly report on the financial progress of the plant to maintain profit plan expectations and ensure incremental performance
SALES & ORDER FULFILMENT
- Leads teams related to the execution & fulfillment of sales orders; ensures the manufacturing team consistently ships quality product on time.
- Responsible for executing the sales output plan and for achieving targets related to Backlog, Past Dues, and OTD.
- Monitors work order status and ensures production orders are completed on a timely basis.
- Ensures products are manufactured within standard lead times and at standard costs; in the event of variances, determines root cause and implements effective corrective actions.
- Utilizes the ERP system (Oracle-JDE) to analyze the backlog, facilitate better decision making and drive efficiency.
LEADERSHIP & STAFFING
- Responsible for all aspects of operations including both salaried and direct labor staffing, value stream layout, inventory management, and capital expenditures.
- Sets clear operational targets, hires & develops talent, and leads performance reviews.
- Monitors labor utilization and production needs to ensure team is correctly staffed. Takes actions to allocate resources, train employees, and close any internal skill gaps.
- Foster an environment of employee engagement by embracing continuous improvement culture tools
8020 & OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE
- Drives the adoption of 80/20 and continuous improvement to increase capacity and reduce operating costs
- Improves manufacturing and material management processes through use of LEAN principles and productivity measurements.
- Implements best practices in production planning, standard work, and shop-floor housekeeping
- Analyzes data and takes action to reduce order lead time, improve production planning, and increase operational capacity
- Drive sustainability across the site through economically-sound processes that minimize negative environmental impacts
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or other relevant degree
- Master’s degree in Business Administration (preferred)
- +10 years of relevant experience in an industrial manufacturing environment; preferably high-volume manufacturing
- Previous responsibility for the safety, quality, production, people management and maintenance of a production unit
- Knowledge of Supply Chain management concepts inclusive of production planning, scheduling, purchasing, inventory control, logistics, and shipping
- Knowledge of 80/20 and Lean business systems
- Experience with ERP systems (Oracle – JDE preferred)
- Experience working with site certifications such as ISO9001 and ISO14001
- Track record of managing and developing talent
- Ability to work in and influence cross-functional teams in a matrix organization, including process improvement or project teams
- Knowledge of financial concepts and techniques utilized to establish value propositions of operational changes
- Proven leadership ability, driving an inclusive and engaged culture
