The incumbent of this position serves as the Deputy Director for Joint Force Integration (DDJFI) for the Joint Force Development Directorate, JS J-7, and supports Directors of the Joint Staff, the Director of the Joint Staff (DJS), the Vice Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff (VCJCS), the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS), the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), and the Joint Requirements Oversight Council (JROC). Major duties and responsibilities include, but is not limited to:
- Centralized management oversight, direction, and execution of operational functions for the Joint Force Integration (DD JFI) by exercising, coordinating and developing, implementing and managing execution of policy, direction, plans, standards and instruction. In this capacity, provides executive leadership in policy formulation and interpretation, program planning and direction, resource management, as well as ensuring full integration of operation functions and program evaluation.
- Leads the transition of concept-required capabilities into joint requirements through the JCIDS process. Acts as the Force Design and Development (FDD) Functional Capabilities Board (FCB) chair in support of DJ8. JFDT coordinates and aligns studies and experimentation across the Services and Combatant Commands to identify and prioritize issues to be addressed through Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), national labs, and technology demonstrations and field experiments.
- Leads the decision support team that directly supports senior leader decision making for campaigning and capability development across all levels of classification. Acts as the senior advocate for integrating irregular warfare and campaigning into JWC implementation in the Joint Force in support of the CJCS and VCJCS.
- Provides direction and guidance to the Department analysis community and executing the Deputy Secretary of Defense's (DepSecDef) Analysis Working Group (AWG) agenda; providing oversight of J-7's experimentation alignment efforts; and the infrequent nature of some duties such as participating in President of the United States (POTUS) and Secretary of Defense (SecDef) directed activities (e.g., National Security Strategy and National Defense Strategy development).
- Coordinates J-7 support for strategic decision-making bodies; manages all DJ-7 legislative and congressional matters; coordinates implementation of the JWC.
- Manages the Warfighting Lab Incentive Fund (WILF); integrates JFDD priorities and concepts into external innovation partners' program of work; integrates advanced capabilities into exercises, wargames, and experiments; manages science and technology internship program.
- Provides joint campaigning perspectives to assess future capability gaps; identifies alternative concepts and approaches to solve key operational problems for future force employment; co-leads Strategic Coordination Cell (SC2) program; provides J-7 SAP/CAP coordination.
- Integrates irregular warfare in JWC implementation; serves secretariat for Irregular Warfare Executive Steering Committee.
- Manages a budget in excess of $10 million, accountable for all associated contracts, execution, and performance.
- Acts as the Force Design and Development (FDD) Functional Capabilities Board (FCB) chair in support of DJ8.
