The Senior Manager, R&D Strategy and Business Operations, is an individual contributor who is an integral part of a small team making up the strategy arm of the R&D Strategy and Program Management organization. This team serves as a strategic and tactical execution partner to the Chief Technology Officer and the R&D leadership team. The role’s primary focus is to work within R&D and with cross-functional teams to drive key business transformation activities to increase R&D efficiency and effectiveness, deliver insights to facilitate structured decision-making on portfolio investments, and support activities critical to executing R&D strategy, including but not limited to: CTO communications, workforce alignment & associated change management, and evaluation of external collaborations or partnerships. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of supporting high priority projects utilizing strategic and tactical skill sets.

Responsibilities:

This role is highly visible to senior and executive leadership; bandwidth & interest-permitting, there will be opportunities to lead other impactful projects not mentioned below.

Independent leadership of R&D-initiated strategic programs

• Lead, manage, and prioritize initiatives to improve R&D productivity as part of our corporate multi-year operational excellence program to drive long-term growth
• Drive strategic programs and influence & coach teams across the organization. Ensure linkage between strategy, operational plans, projects and metrics
• Build detailed project plans with project scope, team, timeline & key milestones, and establish governance cadence. Develop agendas, facilitate discussion, and ensure that meetings result in decision oriented, actionable outcomes

Cross-functional execution of R&D analytics and insights

• Ensure systems and reporting mechanisms are in place to benchmark, monitor and achieve R&D portfolio metrics, and assist with metrics definition, alignment, deployment, and measurement of KPIs to drive R&D productivity
• Work with cross-functional data analytics teams and data stewards to derive insights & drive actions pertaining to the R&D portfolio and investment strategy

Support corporate-level business transformation initiatives within R&D

• Communicates regularly with stakeholders to provide updates on transformation progress, accomplishments and challenges, and solicit feedback to inform decision-making
• Evaluate effectiveness of transformation efforts and maintain a backlog of new opportunities for continuous improvement
• Leverage market, portfolio and cultural insights to support our R&D organization strategy and accelerate innovation

Qualifications:

• Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 12 years of related experience, with 3-6 years of material experience with time spent in similar roles. A bachelors degree in science, engineering, or business required; MBA or other advanced degree preferred
• Prefer management or strategy consulting experience specific to broad-based biotech / biopharma / life sciences tools industries
• Understanding of key business drivers and considerations in the biotech and / or life science industry
• Deep knowledge of business and operational processes, and is well-versed in strategic program management, time & budget management and corporate communications or change management
• Must have strong analytical skills - experience with business cases, quantitative analytics, data visualization highly preferred
• Motivated and confident self-starter with strong problem-solving abilities; able to progress independently or with minimum supervision
• Able to lead in a matrixed environment and across all levels of the organization, from executive leadership to individual contributors and across functional areas
• Comfort with ambiguity; ability to work in a dynamic environment and manage a range of complex-high impact projects simultaneously

The estimated base salary range for the Senior Manager, R&D Strategy and Business Operations role based in the United States of America is: $138,800 - $208,200. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package. • Responsible for leading the Medical Product R&D Innovation Project using Accelerated Product Development (APD) process to achieve project targets
• Lead planning and implementation of projects. May participate in the design and/ or testing phases
• Facilitate the definition of project scope, goals and deliverables
• Define project tasks and resource requirements
• Develop full scale project plans
• Assemble and coordinate project staff
• Manage project budget and resource allocation
• Track project deliverables using APD process
• Provide direction and support to project team
• Constantly monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders
• Implement and manage project changes and interventions to achieve project targets
• Manage certification of product
• Collaborate with multi-sites R&D centre for development

Requirements:

• Masters or Degree in Engineering
• Minimum 3 years’ experience as R&D Project Manager
• Knowledge in medical/biomedical/pharmaceutical product development
• Excellent track records in project delivery (delivered on-time, meeting product requirements and cost efficiency), including projects involving customers
• Good working knowledge of product design (mechanical/electronics/ software) is essential
• Knowledge of ISO 13485/ GMP 21 CFR 820
• Experience in ISO 13485)/ FDA audit would be an added advantage
• Systematic in problem solving approach and creative thinker
• Strong interdisciplinary communication skills
• Certificate in Project Management would be preferred
