This advertisement is for the recruiting position of Science cum Admin Assistant.

If successfully selected, you will be seconded to a MOE Primary School located in Punggol Drive.

Contract Period: From 15 Aug 2024 to 14 Aug 2026

Personnel to be deployed at the following hours:

• Mondays to Thursdays: 7:30am to 4:30pm, inclusive of 30 min lunch break
• Fridays: 7:30am to 4:00pm, inclusive of 30 min lunch break
• The authority reserves the right to vary the timing of the working hours when required in consultation with the contractor. Services not required on Saturdays, Sunday and gazette public holidays.

The Services required are set out as follows:

1. Management of resources

• Regular Inventory management in Science Labs including stock take, replenishing, repairs and replacement
• Assist HOD (Science) to liaise with vendors in procurement for inventory management in Science Labs
• Organise resources neatly with name labels in the Science Labs
• Tidying up of Science Labs

2. Preparation of resources

• Co-ordinate loan request from teachers in the Science Labs
• Preparing and set up of resources according to scheme of work & specifications given by teachers in the Science Labs
• Printing and photocopying jobs in the Printing Room
• Preparation of teaching aids such as cutting and lamination works in the Science Labs

Administrative duties:

Assist with other ad-hoc administrative duties and preparation of resources for the Authority as required by the school and/or department.

The personnel shall minimally have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

• GCE “N” Level Certification
• 1 year of working experience in Science Lab

Resource Management:

• Conduct regular inventory management in Science Labs, including stocktake, replenishment, repairs, and replacements.

• Assist the Head of Department (Science) in coordinating with vendors for procurement in Science Labs.

• Ensure resources in Science Labs are organized neatly in planning schedules and liaising with suppliers for resource acquisition.

Resource Preparation:

• Coordinate loan requests from teachers for Science Labs.

• Prepare and set up resources in alignment with the scheme of work and teacher specifications.

• Handle printing and photocopying tasks in the Printing Room.

• Prepare teaching aids, including cutting and lamination work, in the Science Labs.

Administrative duties:

• Assist with other ad-hoc administrative duties and preparation of resources for the Authority as required by the school and/or department.

Work Timing:

• Mondays to Thursdays: 7.30am to 4.30pm, inclusive of 0.5hr lunch break

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to assist Biomedical scientists in our busy, friendly Microbiology laboratory.

Permanent Full-time 37.5 hours per week, including weekend and late shift working

The laboratory is currently open from 8am to 8pm 7 days 365 days a year.

UHMB has two UKAS ISO 15189 accredited Medical Microbiology labs.

The Microbiology Laboratory at Furness General Hospital provides services for the hospital, local GP’s, and a range of other health care providers.

The post holder will assist registered Biomedical Scientists in the
provision of a scientific analysis service in sections of pathology,
working to agreed protocols.

We operate from three main hospitals - Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

FGH and the RLI have a range of General Hospital services, with full Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.

Main duties by factor: Communications and Relationship skills - (Factor 1) Form constructive and effective working relationships with patients, consultants, medical secretaries, bed manager, transport, GP surgeries, ward staff, porters, rehabilitation nurses, heart failure nurses and arrhythmia nurses. Communicate complex information to staff, patients and relatives regarding tests. Instruct patients regarding tests and equipment in order to obtain best results. Reassure, empathise and tactfully persuade patients, some of whom may have barriers to understanding. Deal with angry or aggressive patients. Train other staff in tests undertaken. Deal with telephone queries from patients, staff and other departments and direct them to the appropriate person/department where necessary. Promote a pleasant and efficient image with internal and external organisations. Analytical and Judgemental skills - (Factor 3) Ensure accurate entry of patient data on to analytical databases. Assess significance of results, identify and act on those which need urgent attention by relevant medical staff.
