The National University of Singapore (NUS) is offering a position for a postdoctoral fellow who will work closely with Dr. Wang Chi Cheung and Dr. Vincent Tan in online machine learning (reinforcement learning, multi-armed bandits).

Project Overview

This project aims to develop a real-time blood analysis and diagnostic platform using an integrated microfluidic chip. This platform uses precision microfluidic technology to process and profile the biological activity of white blood cells which is related to a host of inflammatory conditions ranging from diabetes, sepsis to leukemia. The platform developed will enable point-of-care diagnosis of diseases and this project will accelerate the platform from bench to bedside through the development, deployment and testing of clinical samples.

Candidates with work experience in computer vision applications including visual question and answer generation will be advantageous, however training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and the research team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
• Undertake these responsibilities in the project:
  1. Help in data collection.
  2. Data preprocessing.
  3. Object Segmentation
  4. Image to text
  5. Text Summarization
  6. Question and Answering Tasks
  7. Machine learning model deployment
• Training will be provided.

Job Requirements:

• Good command of programming in any programming languages.
• Degree in EE, CS or related areas, preferably with good knowledge in computer vision
• Good understanding and application experience of machine learning algorithms
• Familiar with image understanding and object segmentation under the end-to-end framework will be advantageous.
• Familiar with one or more of the open-source tools such as Kaldi, Tensorflow, Pytorch will be advantageous.
• Experience in image processing, opencv, multimodel large language models, image to text models, speech processing and natural language processing or other related algorithms will be advantageous.

• Collaborate with partners from both the academia and the industry to lead and/or conduct innovative research on, but not limited to 5G, AI, sustainability, etc.
• Contribute to academic research in the relevant domains and publish high-tier journal papers and conference papers.
• Participate in and manage the research project with Principal Investigator (PI) to ensure all project deliverables are met.
• Coordinate procurement and liaison with vendors/suppliers.
• Participate in computer science related laboratories and tutorials for undergraduate students.
• Interview and supervise student assistants in the project.

Job Requirements:

• (Research Fellow) PhD in Computer Science or a related field
• (Research Engineer) Bachelor/Master degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Proven ability to conduct independent research with a relevant publication record
• Outstanding data analytics, mathematical, and computer modelling skills
• Excellent interpersonal communication and oral presentation skills in English
• Self-driven and strong team spirit
• Open to fixed-term contract (renewable upon review of satisfactory performance)
